After trying several brands of egg rolls, I like these and Pagoda best. Those two are pretty close to each other for flavor and texture, and crispy wraps when baked in a convection oven (probably even crisper in an air fryer). Throw a couple rolls, and some crinkle fries with paprika and salt into the oven to make a meal. Mix half and half some yellow mustard and coarse ground horseradish (not the creamy style) to make a dip for the egg rolls. Bought these several times before, and will buy again.
I made it according to the air fryer directions listed on the back and it said to set at 3:50 for 13 to 14 minutes. I know that the Maillard reaction requires the heat to be at least 375 or higher in order to get decent browning and flavor. %23%23 Temperature Requirements for Maillard Reaction Heat is crucial for the Maillard reaction to effectively occur. While reactions can begin at about **140 to 165°C (284 to 329°F)**, achieving optimal results often requires temperatures at or above **375°F (190°C)**. %23%23%23 Importance of Higher Temperatures - **Enhanced Browning**: At temperatures around **375°F or higher**, the reaction proceeds more rapidly, leading to a deeper browning and more complex flavor development. - **Flavor Complexity**: Higher temperatures promote the formation of various flavor compounds, enhancing the overall taste and aroma of the food. - **Cooking Methods**: Techniques like roasting, grilling, or baking at these higher temperatures are particularly effective for achieving the Maillard reaction, making meats, bread, and vegetables more flavorful and appealing. Using temperatures of **375°F or above** can significantly enhance the Maillard reaction, leading to a delightful culinary experience. I will definitely buy these again and try making them at 375°F for about the same time and see how that goes. At 3:50 it just didn't get brown enough or cook all the way through leaving it a bit soggy in some parts. I still like them.
Air fry, oven baked, microware it's all good. These are just plain good. A good addition to any Chinese dinner or to eat as a lunch or dinner on they own. They have a surprising amount of meat in them. The chicken egg rolls are almost as good. But I'll always buy the pork.
These are excellent. I'm a New Yorker and have found only one restaurant that has really good egg rolls here in Florida. Until I found these! The flavor is excellent, they are crunchy with a wrapper that isn't thick or doughy, and are filled with very tasty veggies and pork that have nice texture, and they aren't greasy. The price is amazing for 4 full sized egg rolls of this quality. Other “Name” brands don't even come close. I cook them straight from the freezer in the air fryer at 375°, for 15 minutes, flipping them once half way through to insure it's crispy all the way around. Great with your favorite dipping sauce. These are a MUST if you like crispy, well filled egg rolls. Don't hesitate to try them!
WoW, i didn't ever get egg rolls from a grocery store i only got them from a restaurant, but my niece wanted some and she seen them in the store so i got a couple boxes of chicken egg rolls an WOW they are so good JUST like the restaurant an better than some : ) i was so surprised we made them in all 3 ways that is suggested, and im still in shock that even the microwave ones turned out great, so im so glad she talked me into it or i would have been missing out on this great product an only getting egg rolls when i go out to eat, THANK YOU WALMART now i dont have to an can make them in my own kitchen
I wanted Chinese one day but did not want to drive to the diner. Bought a box of these based on reviews, and man o man. I LOVE THESE. I heated the over, got them toasty and crunchy and my Chinese desire was satisfied. I also bought some of the InnovAsian rice. But these rolls are now a staple in my freezer. Get you some good mustard, perhaps some soy sauce, but they were Not needed, at least for my tasting.
I used to love these, they were great. I think they are just okay now when I'm in the mood for a veggie eggroll, which isn't half as often as I crave a pork eggroll. They lack flavor of a meat %26 veg combo eggroll, they taste mainly of shredded cabbage, They lack any seasoning %26 if there is any pork at all, I never taste it or see it anymore. Prior, the pork and/or seasonings flavored the shredded cabbage. Extra sauce doesn't help much (not included, I buy separately). I've started to drizzle drops of soy sauce %26 sweet %26 sour sauce to boost the flavor. The eggroll skin is still tasty, even if you're in a hurry and pan crisp them, the skins are quite good. Because of the GV price, I still buy them on occasion, but I don't expect these to fulfill my meat/veggie combo eggroll craving. For the value price, they are an okay to decent vegetable meal or snack.
Loved the crispy wrap but the filling was disappointing. If you go into it thinking veggie roll with a little filler chopped up meatloaf pork, then okay not bad. If you're expecting this to be flavorful, it's not. Does not include dipping sauce. Cheap enough to try. Wouldn't recommend.
NO FLAVOR AT ALL - TASTE LIKE BOILED IN WATER WITH "NO" SALT VEGETABLES ~ Do not buy this unless you plan you to seasoned. All of the filling including the "little" chopped meat taste like meat and vegetables soak in water!!! It is well filled but it has NO tasted. A bit of salt would have a long way.
wanted to give the GV brand a try instead of the other well known brand options. big mistake. if you want egg rolls better just go buy the wrappers and make em yourself. these things say NO MSG, but apparently there is no seasonings at all. not even a dash of salt and pepper, the egg rolls are completely bland and inedible. why on earth would you not put some basic seasoning in a food product? this is not hospital food, SEASON the food. smh i dont even normally leave reviews here but this item made me mad and i want my money back. whoever reads this, go with the other brands that they sell, they are basically the same price if you buy 2 packs.
