1st Choice Great Value

Dyson February 25, 2024

Well yes or no? hummmmm tried the Great Value and tried the Brita side by side in water pitchers. Zero difference in taste, looks or replacement times, so I keep extra money in my pocket and pick up Walmart Great Value filters without hesitation.

Charcoal filters

BoughtFordaughter January 31, 2024

There's nothing to dislike there as good as a Britta charcoal filters, They take out the chemical chlorine smell, as well as other contaminants and they are affordable.

You get what you pay for, I guess.

BM May 19, 2024

Out of three filters, one worked as intended, one worked well until the pitcher was halfway full then it would be stagnate, and the third was cracked and allowed a leak. I'm hoping this was a one off because I do need to drink a lot of water and the name brand is so much more expensive so I'll have to buy another set to try again. When it works, it works wonderfully; the filtered water tastes great. No funny tastes, after taste, or specs from the filter. However, 1/3 isn't good when you're buying the 3-pack.

Clogs up easily but…

Oriah October 20, 2023

So like others, I experienced the clogging issue. I read a review that said to poke the hole at the top to get it to work again so I tried that and it worked! I was pleasantly surprised with how easy of a fix that was so I will continue to purchase these despite the clogging issue.

Good Value

Star January 3, 2024

I have used these filters for years and yes I have had several that were slow or clogged, but I see from the reviews tgat you can use a toothpick to release the air bubbles, so I will try the next time I have a slow drip. Personally, for the money they are worth it, 3 of these are cheaper than 1 name brand. Anyway, how do we know how much is filtered anyway, even bottled water (which I do not buy to try and help the ocean clutter). Unless you are testing your water, who knows?? I know my filtered water tastes better than tap, so thats what I go by.

I believe that change is good but not this one!

ShannonL January 8, 2026

I've been buying these filters for over 5 years but my last purchase there were a couple of changes. The individual filter packaging in previous purchases was white with the first use instructions written on the package but now they are in cheap clear packaging. The only instructions are listed on the box. In the previous filters the directions before first use had the user soak the filter for 10 minutes and then rinse it. These filters worked great for at least a couple of months for each filter. The water quality tasted just like bottled water. The new filter instructions now have us use the pitcher normally but discard the first pitcher of water. This is a more annoying process IMO. Anyway, I followed the instructions installed the filter and put water in the top reservoir. I left to do something else came back to check it. I noticed that no water had passed through the filter so I carefully picked up the pitcher to see if there was something wrong with the filter installation but I didn't see any issue. As soon as I put the pitcher back down on the counter the water started pouring through the filter along with all the carbon. The water was almost completely black. I wanted to take a picture but by the time I found my phone (I had left it in the car.) the water was just murky. Although it was a bit surprising I thought maybe this might be the normal process so I poured the dirty water out, cleaned the pitcher, and proceeded to use the pitcher as normal. I then poured a glass of water and tasted it. So N-A-S-T-Y! The water tasted and smelled just like the regular tap water. I was curious to see if the filter worked at all so I tested the water with a water test strip. The results were exactly the same between the tap water test and the water that went through the filter. I thought maybe just this one filter was defective so I tried the other 2 filters in the package and got the same results. Really disappointing and annoying. Why change something that wasn't broken!? My Great Value water filter pitcher has now been downgraded to water pitcher.

Soooo slow

Alison January 6, 2024

It filters the water soooo slow. I can put water in the top and it still won't be filtered out hours later. You aren't supposed to let the water get below the bottom of the filter for too long, so we can't even use the pitcher to its capacity. The filter that came with the pitcher didn't have this issue, but these replacements are awful.

Don't bother!

Mary April 4, 2024

They are not a value! Brita filters work for a month. You only have to replace them every 30 days. These work for a few days to maybe a week until no water will even pass through them. I was so disappointed in this product. I will not waste my money again.

Doesn't work properly

melissa March 29, 2024

After a few pitchers, water quits going through at a normal rate. When removing the filter and replacing then it begins to put forth grey/black water . Unacceptable!

Don't waste your money!

Cat24 December 25, 2023

I'm usually fine with purchasing generic or store brand items, in fact, I often prefer it. So I purchased these filters assuming that I would have a decent experience and save money. However, I was wrong. I followed the prep directions exactly, and they filter fine for ONE pitcher fill. Then completely clogged. I read from other reviews on here to shake the filter and replace. I did, and nothing. So then I shook harder, turned it upside and tapped it, then the next pitcher fill provided black water, which I assume was carbon leaking out. I tried fresh and the exact same issue. The Walmart response to these bad reviews, basically "follow the rinsing directions exactly" and "it's just air bubbles" doesn't help. When you fill your pitcher and realize it's not filtering, and have to take the filter out, the newly filled water leaked into the filtered water and you have to discard all of it. The filter gets clogged after every single fill. Don't waste money on these and find yourself frustrated and without filtered water.
