Solid sandwich cheese. Good flavor, melts well, and easy to use for quick meals. Works for grilled cheese, burgers, or just throwing on a sandwich. Not the fanciest cheddar, but it gets the job done. Great for the price and we go through it fast. Always a fridge staple.
I once came upon a stack of Great Value cheddar slices that refused to behave like the dainty, apologetic cheese one might expect from polite society. These were not thin things at all. No, sir. They were thick—substantial enough to suggest they had opinions about the sandwich they were destined for. Each slice lay there like a small, confident mattress of dairy ambition. Between them sat sheets of paper, inserted with the seriousness of a clerk filing legal documents. Their job was simple: prevent catastrophe. Cheese against cheese, stacked without restraint, might have led to chaos of the highest culinary order. And so there they were—paper, cheese, paper, cheese—a calm, bureaucratic sandwich of its own making, waiting for some unsuspecting burger to come along and discover that even processed dairy can carry the quiet authority of something that knows exactly what it is doing, even if nobody asked.
This is my go-to sandwich cheese. No question! My husband and son are loyal to American cheese, but I'm a cheddar person all the way. If I'm having cheese, it has to be sharp (or extra sharp), so yes… I'm a bit of a cheese snob. That said, this one delivers. Good sharp cheddar flavor, slices well, melts nicely, and comes at a price that makes it easy to keep stocked. If you like real cheddar flavor in your sandwiches, this is a solid choice without paying deli counter prices.
I buy this type of cheese often. Not just this kind but others as well, I get Swiss, Provolone, Colby Jack, Pepper Jack….they are all good and all a good value. I like to just have a couple slices for a tasty snack! Sometimes, I will add pepperoni slices to a slice of the cheese and roll it up for another great snack. My grandchildren love that!! I have bought this often and will keep buying it. All the flavors make great grill cheese too! I mix 2 different flavors for variety. Some of the cheeses take a bit longer to melt but they are all yummy!
I'm a cheddar cheese lover. I literally have it daily, but some brands just aren't as good, and some even have strange textures. This Great Value cheddar cheese is so freaking good. I have it in slices, shredded, and blocks at all times. I reach for this over name brands every..... single.... time because it's just that good. I put it on everything and it enhances the flavor of whatever I'm eating. My favorite way to eat it is just to grab a slice as a snack.
Better Than Kraft and Sargento in my opinion. Tastes Great. Always Excellent Quality. Uses white waxed papers in between each slice so it does not stick together in one big clump. Great on burgers. Thickness is perfect. Not too thick or thin. Soft. But not too soft. Just right. Very satisfying.
For the price and the taste I give these packets a 4. The larger size packets (24 slices I think) has a different texture and experience. It is not "real cheese" as the world knows cheese, but it will do if you're on a budget. Works with the sandwiches is what matters to me.
I love this value pack of cheddar. I felt the need to review because I've had this issue happen several times. Certain packs taste different than others. most of the time they taste like a good cheddar and other times they have a more rubbery consistency and remind me of American cheese singles in flavor and texture... it's strange and makes me feel like they are doing something to cheapen the product but still charge the same price.
A grilled cheese product sandwich needs some help to actually taste like cheese. Add a slice of Great Value Deli Style Sliced Sharp Cheddar to help out the "cheese product". One melts well and the other is real cheese. A good combo along with some tomato soup.
If you want a delicious slice of cheddar cheese to come off the stack in one piece, you do NOT want the Great Value brand. This morning, what should have been a neat, whole slice for my breakfast sandwich came off in about 20 pieces. I gave everything but "quality" a high rating. It DOES have good texture, it IS delicious but again, I don't want to spend 10 minutes piecing a slice of cheese together like a jigsaw puzzle.
