I bought the big can mostly for several cookie recipes for holiday baking. I usually buy Crisco, the “go to” brand. The price for the Walmart brand was considerably less, so I decided to give it a try. All my cookies turned out great and there was no noticeable difference from my past baking with Crisco. Homemade biscuits turned out perfect too!
This is my first time using this product or one like it, it was a little cumbersome to get out of the can, but once it was in the fryer it melted quick and had a clean appearance. I normally use canola oil to fry and the issue I've always had was the oil starts to get smelly and Smokey halfway through cooking and I have to stop and change the oil. This product has almost no smell and the oil stayed mostly clean, so the batches of food all had the same appearance from the first batch to the last. There was also a noticeable difference in flavor, I fry fish every Friday and this was by far the best tasting fish and the only thing I changed was the oil. I will be using this product moving forward.
Great for pastries and frostings. When refrigerated, it will harden significantly. Just microwave for a few seconds and it should soften up enough to scoop out the bucket.
excellent product alternative to the leading big brands, excellent taste, even better price, highly recommended
Generally buy Cisco, but this is so much cheaper. Very good quality, and results are the same as more expensive brands. Give it a try.
I have been using this product for about a year now. I love the consistency. I do a lot of baking for a living and use this for my icing as well as for pastries. Definitely would recommend this product.
Rather have Crisco but for the money this is a very good replacement for elderly people on a small budget.
Sometimes a recipe calls for shortening and I picked this one. It worked well, I do wish I could have purchased a smaller can for a better price because I don't use much of this, I end up throwing out old unused product.
The lower cost shortening than 100% beef tallow as main ingredient and works great for frying and has a good smooth texture. Hopefully this has more beef tallow and lard than soybean oil and is a healthier alternative than the vegetable oils.
I DIDNT REALIZE THIS IS THE NON-VEGETABLE SHORTENING. IT IS MADE WITH BEEF TALLOW. I AM TERRIBLY ALLERGIC TO BEEF. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID. THIS IS BEEF
