We use shredded potatoes for breakfasts, suppers, mini quiche and for making potato latkes for Hanukkah. No way am I going to grate/shred potatoes, even with a food processor, then wring out the excess liquid and watch raw potatoes turn brown only to fry them and have them turn out oily and gummy. Using pre-shredded potatoes results in crispy latkes, avoids all that mess, excessive prep time, and disappointment. Yay!
One reason I like Great Value Shredded Hash Browns is that they don't freeze into a solid block - I literally have to hit the bag with a hammer to break up the brick of potatoes for other more expensive brands - I can usually break any small clumps with my fingers with the Great Value brand, but they are usually separated right out of the bag. Because they aren't in huge clumps in the pan, I don't end up with mushy hash browns. I definitely recommend trying Great Value Hash Browns - %26 other Great Value products - because I think they are better than the more recognizable name brands. They are easier to prepare %26 taste better because of it.
I found these easy to prepare. They are just potatoes so they taste fine. They are a little thicker than some other brands but I found no issues with that. I nuke them for 2 minutes to pre-cook them, and then throw them in a hot pan with butter. This way they cook up fast (no long cooking times) and crisp up great. Highly recommend for a quick easy breakfast. By microwaving it removes the "too thick" issue. This thickness allows for a crisp edge and a chewy center. They don't dry out as quickly as thinner ones.
It was a fast way to have hash browns without having to grate potatoes. One stick of butter is sufficient to cook the entire bag of hash browns. Make sure when cooking, to add extra salt; because these hash browns needed it. For myself, I added lots of crushed black pepper, garlic powder, and minced onion flakes. And when it was completely cooked, I then added shredded triple blend cheddar cheese. Sounds expensive, but it's not. The spices are all $ 1.00 each and the shredded triple cheddar cheese is under $2.00 at Walmarts online. It's a nice side dish. My recommendation is to give it a try and see what you think.
OMG, these frozen shredded has browns are scrumptious %26 always on my grocery list!!! Arthritic seniors like myself can no longer shred potatoes, but these turn out like the actual homemade 💯👍
My favorite hash browns. i enjoy them often, salt/pepper in oil on stove top. Start them frozen or microwave prior to frying. * cover with lid to get golden brown, medium heat. No need to turn over, just peak under with turner, when brown just flip onto plate, brown side up, and enjoy.
These are absolutely the best hashbrowns I have purchased anywhere. They cook well and get nice and crispy. I think they’re way better than any of the name brands.. They cost a lot less than the name brands, but I would buy them even if they were the same price.
DELICIOUS! Super easy. Set it and forget it recipe! HASH BROWN SHEET PAN CRISPY BOTTOM SOFT TOP 20 oz package, frozen Great Value hash-browns, unseasoned 4 eggs 1/4 cup plain flour 1/4 cup milk, or sour cream 1/2 teaspoon coarse pepper, ( or less to taste) 3/4 teaspoon garlic salt, (or less) 4-6 small sweet, bell peppers, chopped 2 Vidalia, onions, chopped 1/4 cup dried parsley 2 tbls. Virgin olive oil Mix everything but potatoes. Add potatoes, stirring 2-3 minutes. Line broiler pan cover with thick foil. Spray with Pam. Also add 2-3 tbls. virgin olive oil to foil. Add potato mixture to the middle of pan all at once, pushing to the edges with a spatula. Bake uncovered middle of oven at 425* for 1 hour. Let set 10 minutes then cut and serve. Remove with spatula. Great with (hot %26 sweet) green pepper jelly. Options: chopped jalapeño pepper, 2-3 tbls. frozen chopped spinach, top with 8 slices of bacon (last 30 minutes of cooking), add chopped sausage when mixing, top half with grated sharp cheddar or pepper jack cheese, (adding cheese to the top may make it crispier or creamier, depending on how long you cook it). Great with cooked apples, applesauce, western omelettes. Can refrigerate and warm over the next day.
I always buy shredded hash browns for making breakfast for when my grown kids come home and want hash browns and eggs. They always ask for it. And how can any mom say no? They cook up great from a frozen state and taste great. They don’t have a lot of bad potatoes in it like some
I am seriously impressed with these Great Value Shredded Hash Browns because they make getting a restaurant-quality breakfast at home so much easier. They cook up perfectly golden and crispy in a skillet without getting mushy or sticking together, which has always been my struggle with other frozen brands. I love that they aren't pre-seasoned, so I can add my own salt, pepper, or even some onions and peppers to customize them exactly how I like. This 26 oz bag is a great size for keeping in the freezer for weekend brunches or even as a quick base for a breakfast casserole. If you’re looking for a reliable, no-fuss hash brown that actually delivers on that satisfying crunch, these are a total pantry—well, freezer—essential!
