Looking at all of the complaints I didn't know what to expect. Took a chance and ordered it anyway. It has a faint smell of rancid milk, but tastes good. Not plastic at all and it melts perfectly fine at (my oven was at 425 degrees and it melted within a minute of putting it in.) They either listened and went back to the original recipe that people seemed to love or the complaints are flimsy at best.
Great Value bagged shredded cheese is a solid choice for everyday cooking. It melts well, the flavor is consistently good, and the variety they offer is impressive. Whether it's cheddar for tacos, mozzarella for pizza, or a blend for casseroles, it gets the job done. The convenience of pre-shredded cheese is undeniable, especially for quick meals. However, the price point, while competitive, could be even better. While it's generally cheaper than name brands, it's still a regular purchase, and those savings add up over time. If Great Value could shave a bit more off the price, it would be an absolute home run.
I get these big bags becaue it seems more economical and a time saver and we go through a lot of cheese, however know that if you get preshredded cheese there are anti caking additives that they put in them (not always the most desireable stuff either). So if health is a bigger concern, just get a big block and shred your own. I work so I don't have a lot of time but it's important to note because when I found out I was mad about it! But every shredded cheese brand out there does it, so what are you going to do. They don't want the shreds to stick together.
for shredded cheese, it's pretty okay. i use this mostly for pizza. I'm not too picky about cheese unless you're talking a nice gruyere or that terrible fake stuff that come wrapped in plastic. I'm not one of those 'shredded cheese, ugh, how *can* you *bear* it' people. the size of the shreds varies purchase to purchase; sometimes a bag will have quite wide shreds, which I really like, and sometimes it's normal thin-shredded. melts fine on pizza and pasta stuff. maybe a little rubbery, but honestly all mozz is. i normally keep it in the freezer til i need it
it's great a bit pricy but I normally buy my mozzarella from Sam's almost 1/3 cheaper, but if this is the only place for you to get your shredded mozzarella then yes it's fantastic esp over pasta and pizza, I use it in my toasted Sammies and am doing so right now (too ugly to post since it's half eaten at this moment 😂
This is the most cost efficient mozzarella, and with the fewest additives. It appears (12/21/2025) that it is no longer carried? I couldn't find it when I searched to add it to my order, and when I found it in a previous order I got an error message when I clicked it.
We buy this monthly... Basically the only mozzarella we use It actually melts wonderful The tastes great Constantly buy seriously... And yes the price is a little high but it's good mozzarella cheese and it's something that you will use if you eat a lot of mozzarella cheese and a lot of pastas you will come back back to this just keep it like sealed so it doesn't dry out and it's wonderful
We use this for making our own pizzas. It melts down great, and we use any leftover in other meals. It mixes great with a sharp cheddar when making other dishes like burritos, chili cheese fries, tacos, and taco salads. If your recipe calls for cheese, throw in a little mozzarella with it. :)
the mozzarella is not shredded very well at all, and there's no anti-caking in it apparently because it clumps together really bad, which makes it even harder to spread by hand without huge chunks of compressed cheese going everywhere. it's flavor is pretty good, but it's also very rubbery if not almost overcooked.
The cheese in these specific bags are burning instead of melting like usual. I get 2 bags every month and this month its burning like plastic is mixed into it. I even stopped using the first bag and opened the second to see if there was a change and there was not. the main reason i buy the cheese is because of how it cooks in the oven and its not cooking how it usually does.
