Is it fancy sourdough made by a guy named Lars who feeds his starter daily? No. Is it absolutely perfect for toast, grilled cheese, and standing in the kitchen eating a slice with butter? Yes. Soft, tangy enough to feel legit, and sturdy enough to hold up to whatever you stack on it. This bread shows up, does the work, and asks for nothing in return. Five stars. Would trust it with my sandwich again.
I got this loaf as a substitute on a delivery order. I’m glad I did. I bake a lot of bread. But sometimes I just buy a loaf for convenience. I ordered a different brand but got this as a substitute. It’s really good sourdough! The crumb is soft and light. The crust is perfectly browned. I was really surprised!
This is an excellent product for a store brand bread. The slices are sturdy. When I’m craving sour dough, I don’t hesitate on this. We’ll even use them for hamburgers and hot dogs if we don’t have buns. Spend your extra money on another stocking stuffer, and save by buying store brand bread.
This is my favorite sandwich bread. It doesn’t taste like a true sourdough and it has a softer, less coarse texture than one, but it’s also not sweet like regular sandwich bread...it hits a nice middle ground. It’s always fresh, and it actually STAYS fresh for a good while, which I really appreciate. It's so good that I can eat it straight out of the bag with nothing on it. Great flavor, great texture, and a decent amount of protein per slice, too.
I do like this bread and so does my husband. The slices are a good size. I wish it was made with whole grains and less ingredients though. Great Value has a lot of good products, just hoping they strive for less ingredients in their products. I am patiently waiting for better.
This sour dough is actually quite nice. you can definately tell that its sour dough! And i love toasted sour dough dripping in butter - who doesnt?? If your sick of spending over $5 for a brand name bread, you gotta give this a try! Prced low enough that two of GV sour dough sliced loafs end up costing what a regular loaf would cost! Now thats a bargain!!
I received this bread as a substitute for Pepperidge Farm sourdough. It's fairly good, but it lacks real sourdough flavor (much like all the other supermarket sourdoughs). It was moist enough, and was fairly large so it made a decent sandwich. I think I'd still prefer the brand name, but this was acceptable.
sadly this was very disappointing. it is not even close to tasting like sourdough bread. it's extremely soft and falls apart and even toasted it's still too soft and not really good quality. disappointing to say the least. but if you like white bread, this is as close as you're going to get unless you buy a loaf of wonder bread.
This is absolutely NOT sourdough and should not be labeled as such. The taste and texture are vastly different. Real sourdough is crusty, similar to a French baguette, and has telltale nooks and crannies, similar to an English muffin. The taste is somewhat tangy and nutty, as well. It's also supposed to be made with a sourdough starter (which should be listed in the ingredients) as opposed to commercial yeast. This bread is sweet and noticeably thicker than real sourdough bread, and does not have the crusty, crunchy exterior, especially when toasted, nor does it have the nooks and crannies, and tangy, nutty taste. Great Value might be good for French toast, but for me, the taste is extremely off-putting. People who praise this as sourdough bread clearly haven't had the real thing. Normally, I buy Marketside sourdough, which is very, very good, everything sourdough should be.
This is not sourdough bread it’s just white bread this was substituted for a bread I wanted and I regret accepting it .. it’s essentially overpriced white bread
