These are a staple at our house. The kids love them I love them. Breakfast with eggs or lunch with a sandwich. The kids esp love with chicken nuggets for dinner probably their favorite dinner lol. My favorite is in the air fryer anytime for a snack perfect finger food for movie watching or binging some shows.
The Ida brand slightly has a better texture and taste . However , based on the quantity you get for that price , it's a bang for your buck , and after buying both brands at the same time , I've learned that they take longer to expire than the other brands . You actually get 2 bags for the price of one of the other brand bags.
Theses Tater Tots are pretty darned good for a generic brand, I use them for snacks, burritos, tacos, etc. the quickest way to cook potatoes to put with your breakfast, lunches, or supper/dinner, or just plain Ole potatoe and egg burritos. They go with a lot of foods. Us Ole Folks call them hush puppies.
These are one of my favorite sides, along with the crinkle fries! They cook quickly, always come out slightly crunchy and have the best flavor. I bake them in the oven - or toaster oven - and they taste great! Great price too. If you have a large family, the bigger bags are an even better value.
I use it with Tatortot Casserole and other casseroles. Breakfast foods are good to make with it. Breakfast burritos. It has a good amount in the bag and about 1/4 of the bag left after a casserole to use for burritos. Has great flavor and cooks easy.
Cook to your liking, not to the directions. If I cook following the cooking directions, they aren't cooked enough. I don't like that frozen food taste. I thaw them during the oven pre heat and cook them for 40 minutes. They are crispy and don't taste undercooked. Play around with the cook time and you'll find the way you like them too.
please tater tots are still delicious and still under $3 , however; I noticed with this purchase how much smaller the package is and that you now get less product! really really disappointing! before you could at least get two meals out of one bag that won't be happening now yet still marketed as containing 2 lbs. if the price goes up I won't be buying them anymore. no reason for the Great value items to be doing this kind of thing to consumers.
I opened a bag and tossed them in our air fryer. Once it chimed and I put in container, snagged one to eat. The texture, taste was completely off. Afraid it was just wonky taste buds or just me - gave one to my father. He said those are rotten. There's something wrong with a majority of this bag. I hope this was an isolated incident otherwise buyers beware.
The taste and crisp I was able to obtain from these tators were great as any other brand I've used before. However, I ended up with hasbrowns instead of tator tots. Tots were still frozen, and oil was definitely hot, but tator tots broke apart completely, not one stayed it's shape and I ended up with one big tator pancake, but we didn't complain, we had breakfast for dinner, and made it work by cutting it into pieces and making hashbrowns :)
It's no longer just chopped potatoes, it's now covered in this awful batter like a mozzarella stick has but not nearly as tasty. It was mushy even when cooked to a crisp and lacking the usual seasoning it typically has. Guess I'll go back to name brand...
