Greedfall: The Dying World – PlayStation 5

The game arrived new in package. I didn't realize we'd have to download the game. My husband said that is common with Play Station games now. I think that is kinda annoying. But anyway, Greedfall took a good chunk of time to download. Now that we've been playing the game, I'm sure part of the reason it took so long to download is because the graphics are AWESOME. So far, Greedfall is a really good story. This game is not for younger children. I'd say at least 12 or 13 and up. But it's a good game!! We are really enjoying it so far. I recommend!

This is a good RPG with a decent amount of content. Cast and setting are unique. Nice character customization options too. Would recommend if you're okay with a mid budget RPG. Not every game has to be Final Fantasy.

The story and lore build on the original world so well, and the PS5 visuals look stunning. The combat and RPG mechanics feel smooth and engaging. A must-play for fans of story-driven RPGs!

Fun so far, plays a bit more fluid than the previous game though it is a prequel and scratches that Euro RPG itch.

I picked this up after loving the original GreedFall back in 2019, and this prequel definitely swings for the fences, it just doesn't always connect. Set on the island of Teer Fradee before the events of the first game, it puts you in the shoes of a member of an indigenous tribe instead of a colonizing noble, which is a pretty interesting change for the series. What works. The environments are genuinely gorgeous, lush forests, atmospheric cities, some of the best character close ups I've seen in a mid budget RPG. The combat got overhauled from real time action to a real time with pause tactical system, kind of like Dragon Age Origins. The talent tree lets you go through missions with diplomacy, stealth or alchemy depending on how you want to build your character. When it clicks it really scratches that Dragon Age or Baldur's Gate itch. What doesn't work. This is where it gets rough. Even after more than a year in Early Access, the game launched feeling unfinished. Expect bugs, occasional crashes that block your progress, characters getting stuck on scenery, and pacing that swings between gripping and tedious. Combat turns into mindless grinding in some stretches, and the writing dips in quality right where you want it to shine, especially with the heavier themes it's trying to tackle this time. Bottom line. If you're patient and you love sinking into a flawed but ambitious RPG world, there's real magic here, about 30 hours of campaign with a lot of heart. If you want something polished start to finish, you might want to wait for a patch or two. I don't regret getting it, but go in with tempered expectations. Would I recommend it. Yes, and right now it is actually on sale, so this is a good time to grab it if you have been on the fence.

Some minor issues but the fame is nice and dies take a while to pick up but really good game

I played Greedfall on PS5 and walked away with a solid... but unspectacular 3/5. The improved mini-map is a welcome change the reduced motion sickness compared to the first game made longer sessions far more comfortable yet the experience is dragged down by noticeable frame rate drops during area transitions and especially while traveling on the in-game ship. On top of the technical stutters, the skill tree and stats system feel bloated, forcing too much busywork that dilutes the otherwise engaging exploration and story. It's a serviceable RPG with some genuine highlights but the performance hiccups and overcomplicated progression keep it from rising higher than it could in my opinion
