I don't know how I got this far without using payne's grey, especially this brand. Perfect for when you want to limit your black usage.

Was able to buy several tube colors that were less readily available when you get made up variety packs of pans or tubes at a good price each.

This is the best purple on the market. I've compared it to every other manufacturer's purple that I could find, and it's simply the best. I keep coming back to it. As a watercolorist and a teacher of watercolors I insist that my students use this color and no other. If they want to paint the way I do, (and why else would they take my classes) they have to use the paints that I use. In my paintings I underpaint all my dark values with purple, then glaze over it with other colors. Wet and dry, this particular paint is the most brilliant purple I've tried. When I try to use purples by other manufacturers I simply don't get the same results. I hope Grumbacher never changes its recipe for Thalo Purple.

I love this stuff. I've tried a LOT of student level paints and the only other one that is at this level is Van Gogh. Pleasure to paint with in all aspects. The only complaint is they crack when dry in a palette but they do not crumble and they rewet just fine. I built a 20 pan palette of these and may collect more. Highly recommend, they have a lot of high end colors as well. Hidden gem that does not get enough attention.

I use this powdered slate pigment since the 1970's as monochromatic watercolour landscapes. It has a greenish cast. Its use is to almost completely wash out areas in skies, water etc. It was first colour a teacher first showed me its secret as monocromatic landscape with the purpose of wiping the colour almost completely out when making a mistake. Wonderful colour when drawing with a brush as quick sketches --value studies before attempting a larger full coloured painting. It has a liveliness of real pigment that the dye with chalk or filler colours just don't have.

These paints work for me. They are a great price and blend well with my other paints.

I bought a few of these watercolor tubes a few years ago from another art store, and they were very nice. However, the reason I'm giving this product a four star review instead of a five is because these paints are more for student artists and not professionals. So, the quality is not as great as other brands. On the other had they are great for beginners though.
