Guide Gear 12 Volt ATV/UTV Spreader, 80-lbs. Capacity

Bought this for my elderly relative. Easy attachment and set up. Definitely was what he was wanted for someone that is extremely picky about everything.

it was easy to put together and install.i used it to spread clover on a couple acres and it worked great.

This spreader is a good buy, time will tell how it holds up. It should be fitted with a shield in the back to prevent the fertilizer or seed from being discharged towards your ATV. I made an installed one by hand from ss sheet metal in about 2 hours, this should be done at the factory.

My review of this unit: ? The hopper is fastened to tubular frame via 4 short sheet metal screws which engage the plastic hopper by about 3/8"or less; highly inadequate, given 50# in hopper and vibrations from rough terrain. My fix: Drill out the 4 mounting holes into the hopper and replace with SS hardware (1/4-20 x 2” round-head screws with lock nuts). Install screws from inside the hopper with washer and ny-lock nut below the tube frame. Note that in order to install the 2” screws, the motor support bracket has to be unbolted from the hopper so it can be tilted out of the way. I removed the spinner plate as well to prevent damage or interference while drilling out the holes from the bottom. ? Assembly comes with metric “J Hooks” rather than U-bolts. J Hooks can be used, but they tend to torque themselves to offset angles when tightened. If the ATV rack allows for the use of U-bolts, substitute 1/4 – 20, 1” wide as needed. ? The wiring harness comes with over-sized ring terminals for the battery connection. They are thin and given the large I.D. of the terminal, they make for a lousy electrical connection. Depending on your application, you may wish to replace these with a terminal sized to the screw diameter of your battery. My fix: Cut the ring terminals and discard; replace with medium sized battery clamps that you can get from your local farm/barn type store. Other options exist if you are electrically inclined. The harness appears to be rather robust, but the fuse holder and On/Off switch are “panel mount” types- they could've been an “in line” type, but they'll work. The total harness length should suffice for your typical ATV whether mounted on the back or front. Included, is a 5 amp automotive type fuse. ? As others have complained, there is no deflector plate to keep that material from being slung towards the ATV. You are left to your own creativity on this one, but I fabricated a deflector from a section of vent/stove pipe, attaching it to the tubular frame. ? The rain cover is garbage- cheap, thin plastic sewn into a paper-thin rim of nylon material, held in place by an elastic cord. A brief, light rainfall left a badly sagging cover and the bin was wet inside. This might suffice as a dust cover, but no more. A better option is not available from the OEM; it will be up to the buyer to fabricate something more “robust”. ? The motor shaft has a hitch pin mounted on it, just above the drop hole to work as an agitator. Be advised- if you fill the hopper completely, manually spin the distribution plate by hand to insure the shaft will move freely when switched ON (or else a fuse might blow). ? The flow adjust control is lightweight plastic and mounts to the tubular frame with one screw only, it has a plastic locating “pin” molded into the slider plate that engages a second hole on the tube frame. This would appear to have a limited life span; not robust at all. Time will tell. ? 700# of fertilizer was spread thus far w/o any failures worth mentioning. Overall, it needs modifications to withstand the test of time, but for the price it's not that bad of a spreader.

After using this product this past weekend for my food plots, it did very well. The motor seemed extremely strong and I was impressed, however I do wish it had an adjustment for the motor speed. In some of my narrow plots a slower turn speed would be useful. I mounted to the front of my Honda Rancher with ease. One thing to point out is the product does not have a guard so it can be used front or back. This can cause you to be stung by seed as the motor is strong. I recommend a reversal plastic guard. I used a piece of cardboard and it worked fine. Happy with the product for the money as it saved a lot of walking and time.

Does not hold 80%23 more like 40%23 I mounted this on front of a small garden tractor that is why installation was difficult, Does work well average spread width is more like six feet, Cable for material dispenser is to short had to buy a throttle cable and use the part from it All things said can not expect a $200. spreader to be excellent, In all it does work good

spreader is hard or impossible to mount directly onto a pipe style front rack,, i installed 5/8 plywood to my rack with ubolts and used 1 hole conduit straps to attach spreader to plywood. but the biggest problem is the slide gate at bottom of hopper doesn't close tight enough to prevent smaller seeds like r ape, turnip, clover, and even alfalfa, from leaking out. i have to carry seed in a pail and load hopper as im in the field starting first pass of seeding.

No good. Cheaply made. Will not last one day on a ATV broadcasting fertilizer.

Sportsmen Guide shipped the product quickly which was nice. Spreader arrived broken. Returning this spreader and will look for a different model. Return process seems pretty easy as well.
