This is a great cage and Habitrail customer Service is equally awesome. Well made, looks beautiful in our daughters room and......our white and black spotted Russian Dwarf "Pixie" loves it. On a side note, I registered the product on the Habitrail website and it has a lifetime warranty, never would think that, but it's true! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
We purchased this Habitrail without seeing it in person which can be a little worrisome, but it is fantastic! The only difference between the Dwarf Ovo habitat and the regular Ovo habitat, is that the vertical tubes are smaller, allowing the hamster to be able to get up and down them. Everything else is the same, which means they still have a lot of space to explore...it's larger than it looks which I was happy about! It's very easy for my daughter to access her fur baby when she wants to play with him. Both the front and the back portions of the main cage open up completely, as well as the top bubble which also serves as a carrier. She loves being able to open the side unit, which slides open and creates a barrier so that they can't get back into main area. There is a trick to making sure the water bottle doesn't leak...fill it up completely, then give it three shakes over the sink. This creates a vacuum seal. Carry it with the spout down back to the cage. Assembly was a little intimidating when seeing all the pieces, but really not difficult once you start. Love that it includes a food dish, water bottle, hideaway and a wheel all smartly designed.
We received this habitrail dwarf hamster habitat for Christmas and surprised our daughter with both the habitat and the hamster on Christmas morning. Both our daughter and the dwarf hamster are very happy with this habitat. The habitat provides an enriching environment for hamsters - including the wheel, the water container (which is elevated so it doesn't get contaminated), and extra rooms for play and bath (we filled the small room with chinchilla sand and our little guy loves "bathing" in the sand). Highly recommend for happy hamsters and children!
worked great for my hamster until he died.
We have pet mouse using it--and he seems to love it! He even sleeps in the "main compartment" from time to time. I would imagine dwarf hamsters would, too, they are about the same size. I would recommend it as a playground/toy to place inside a larger cage, not use it for the hamster to live in. Habitrail can be assembled in many ways, so it would fit into a cage.
Not suitable for a Syrian hamster. We decided to make a bin cage instead. This cage would be perfect for one dwarf hamster. Someone else commented that it would be a good cage for Syrian hamster...maybe as a baby hamster? Our Syrian was 2 months old when we got her and this cage was already too small for her.
It is insufficient in every way. It doesn't have the required floor space, the wheel looks too small, and theres no space to put a sand bath or bedding, which hamsters need. Please do research. Hamsters are living beings and need to be treated well. Also, this is marketed towards the parents of small children, so if you're a parent looking to buy your child a hamster, you should reconsider. They're awake after your child is asleep.
All hamsters need a BARE minimum of 450sq in unbroken floorspace along with 6-10in of bedding, it is absolutely cruel to keep your hamster in this size of a cage. if you love your hamster you will do proper research of it's needs. Hamsters are NOT toys or disposable pets.
i HATE this cage.this cage is not suitable for any creature. The tubes are very tight. Not enough bedding can fit. DO NOT BUY THIS CAGE YOUR PET WONT BE THRIVING. FYI living isn't thriving.
really not adapted for hamsters. Too small, no place to dig tunnels or to hide. The animal will get bored to death
