I've used the half moon cast iron grill once so far, I like it!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After a couple of cooks getting used to my Kamado Joe, I wanted to do some smash burgers. I purchased the KJ reversable griddle and what a great addition. I use it as a partial divide and cook initially, then will smash and sear on the heated cast iron. It works great for burgers, steaks, and veggies. I've even grilled onions on it and wow, it really does a great job.

I've used this at least a dozen times and each time it heats evenly, cooks consistent and gives me just one more tool to make my Kamado Big Joe even more versatile.

Like everything Kamado Joe, this is an awesome piece of equipment. My first cook with it was a couple of nice ribeyes. Reverse sear. I put the griddle right over (almost touching) the coals. After I got close to temp it was seriously hot. Steaks went on. Only took a few seconds on each side. Maillard reaction over the whole surface. Well worth getting and there's so much more to use it for.

My go-to setup involves putting the griddle on the upper rack (for indirect heat) using the flat side up. This is exactly how I heat my sides, just as I mentioned: buns, tortillas, and quesadillas come out perfectly. The heavy cast iron absorbs the gentle, smoky heat from below, creating a perfectly consistent, non-stick warming plate that doesn't scorch or dry out the delicate bread products. It essentially acts as a gentle oven on the upper level while the main grilling happens below.

I've been enjoying cooking using the cast iron attachment for anything from veggies to fish to pork tenderloin roulade to pineapple. Whether its searing at high temperatures or cooking at low temps, it works. Mostly use the flat side, but the slotted side would be useful for searing steaks.

I like the option of using this to avoid the loss of juices and it is high quality. My main critique is that because there is no lip on one side, you can lose juices out that side. I put butter on the griddle and it just slid right off into the fire since my grill isn't perfectly level (which many are not). It could also used improved care instructions to describe in more detail how to care for and store (including temp) the griddle on an ongoing basis for those that don't work with cast iron often.

I'm not 100% certain if I'm using it correctly, there are almost no details about which accessories work together. I have a fitment issue when used with my "divide and conquer". It doesn't sit "flat" and I certainly wasn't expecting to lose food to the fire box while sauteing.
