I love this rice cooker personally I use it at least 3 times a week since I received it. I have cooked brown rice in it around 8 times in the last 3 weeks and its came out wonderful every time. I have also cooked lentils with rice, 15 bean soup, red beans with rice, kale and shrimp in the rice cooker all of which did quite well. I did end up cooking my shrimp in the bottom of the rice cooker since I didn't want it steamed and it came out perfect. I have been well-known for putting things on the stove and forgetting it only to come back to have ruined food I have no issues with that since using the rice cooker. This rice cooker has made cooking so much easier and time saving for me. I can literally put everything in set it and forget it while I get other things done. I no longer have to keep checking my beans and rice on the stove and I don't have to worry about it getting stuck to the bottom. I can even cook whole meals in the rice cooker and I cook more often because of it being a lot easier with less hassle. One of the other things I like using it for is cooking sides in advance so I don't have to wait the next day. Since I can just set the rice cooker and go do something else it really frees up a lot of time. A few things about the rice cooker I like are, it is very easy to clean it only takes a few minutes. It also has moisture sense time adjust while cooking rice and the moister collectors very easy to remove and put back on. Setting the rice cooker is as simple as pushing the select mode button until the red light reaches the mode you would like to use. I don't really have anything negative to say other than it would be nice if the steam basket was larger and the rice paddle was more durable. Also, for me living in an apartment with no carpet the beeping is quiet loud I would like if it could be adjusted so the people next to me don't hear it. But over all I am finding this rice cooker very easy to use extremely useful and time saving. I look forward to finding out what all I can manage to cook in it while I set and can forget it.
As an Asian who eats rice in the morning having deferred cooking is awesome for fresh morning rice. Only complaint is they don't have water lines for cooking one cup of rice. Only for 2 and above. So for someone who only wants rice for one meal and for one person it's hard to accurately measure water.
This is our first experience using a rice/steam cooker. The Hamilton Beach 20 cup rice cooker has been very simple and easy to use. Included in the box was the steamer with removable metal cooking bowl, vegetable steamer rack, plastic spoon, measuring cup, and instructions with a few included recipes. All of the products except the actual cooker are dishwasher safe. The controls on the device are simple and easy to use with no "learning curve" necessary. Simply add your ingredients, close the lid, hit the select mode button until the correct option is selected, and hit start! Easy as that! It has a delay start option, which could be convenient to have a one dish meal waiting for you when you arrive home from work, but we haven't used that option yet. The cooker looks great with a stainless steel and black hard plastic design. Seems to be well constructed and durable. Lid closes securely and easily. Our only experience with this type of cooking so far is from using a crockpot. From what I have read, the largest difference between a crockpot and a steam/pressure cooker is that the pressure cooker is able to cook foods much faster than a crockpot can. For our first meal, we made a brown rice jambalaya dish with polish sausage. We put all of the ingredients in, selected the heat simmer mode for 45 minutes, and hit start! In just 45 minutes, the meal was complete! Dinner turned out great! Much faster than the crockpot would've taken. I'd say the product is a win! Easy cleanup and storage as everything fits inside of the steamer when it is stored. 5 stars! Highly recommend! We should've purchased one of these a long time ago!
This rice cooker comes with the base, the insert cooking pot, a plastic rice paddle, the steaming basket and a 6 ounce measuring cup. It comes with instructions, but it's very easy to use. It has 6 settings: white rice, quick rice, whole grain, heat/simmer, steam cook, and keep warm. I used the steam cook setting and steamed a small pack of broccoli. It came out great. I used frozen broccoli (less prep time), and steamed it for 15 minutes. I usually boil my veggies, but steaming it came out just as good. The next thing I made was white rice. I used the white rice setting. I used 6 cups of rice and 6 cups of water ( I like my rice al dente). The rice came out perfect. No burning at the bottom (cause its nonstick). Do not use metal utensils with this rice cooker. My last one I made that mistake and it scratched up the nonstick coating. This rice cooker comes with a plastic rice paddle that will be sufficient. My only problems with this rice cooker is when it's done it beeps once, and the beep is not very loud. It's not a big problem (some may even prefer it that way), but if you need to know exactly when the food is done, you can easily miss it. Also the cord is about 28 inches, which is short for my liking. That means I have to move stuff around on my countertop in order to have it near a socket. Again not a big problem, just putting it out there. Overall I really like this rice cooker. And would recommend it to anyone.
I already have a smaller rice cooker, but it doesn't steam vegetables; so I wanted a bigger one with a steamer basket. This fit the bill perfectly. Because I already have a smaller one this was mainly used for steaming vegetables. I've steamed corn, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes and carrots. My vegetables came out so much better than steaming them on the stove or microwave. And steaming the potatoes made the best smashed potatoes ever, not too dry from microwaving them and not too watery from boiling. Perfect. The instructions were very easy to understand and follow. I like that it has different settings for different types of rice and a few other non-rice settings too. I didn't realize you could make soup or cook beans in it until I read the recipes that came with it. I have a few things that I may try out later once I get better at using this. I like this. I should have bought one a long time ago. (Just a note, this is not the type of rice cooker you can cook bread in like the Japanese ones can. My friends already asked me so I thought I'd include this in case anyone was wondering.)
I did numerous review inquiries before deciding the Hamilton Beach Digital Simplicity was a worthwhile choice. Upon arrival I was pleased with the quality packing [save the box!]. The cooker was very attractive- clean contemporary styling and it was ready to use with no assembly--just prewashing of the enclosed items-cooking liner-steamer basket- measuring cup and rice paddle. NEXT I read the very thorough [3 language- English-Spanish-French] INSTRUCTION BOOK [lots of photos!] on how to program for multiple cooking possibilities. DO THIS- don't guess. It is a well thought out appliance-- learn to use it for great cooking ease! I was ready to experiment and started with plain white rice. Followed simple instructions-closed attached lid- started cooker- and waited. This is not instant cooking-- give the machine time to work its magic. Rice came out perfect for me- moist and not sticky- so i did my favorite brown rice next- then steamed FRESH baby carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, potato chunks- basic fare and it all cooked with no watching...and all in one container tray-- not a sink full of pots and pans. While not suggested- I steamed fresh skinless chicken breast chunks and let the fat just melt off into the water below to toss those calories...all came out tender and moist. Blended my cooked treats, seasoned and enjoyed a healthy meal with minimum work and clean-up. PROS-light weight, secure attached / snap down vented cooking cover, easy to empty, unobtrusive and clever steam condensation collector cup attached, easy instructions to learn-easy to start- quick to clean. The stainless finished cooker looks classy-- store it on your counter top if you have room as it will be frequently used [ mine will.] CONS- short [26''] power cord-but actually a good safety feature. Sadly- very few recipes are included for this very versatile appliance-- so get creative ! // I am very pleased with this choice and i hope the electronics are well made for continued use-- time will tell--but my initial trials were VERY positive. I researched the various wide range of store prices for this 20 cup model on line and the Walmart, com cost [ currently- reg. price- just under $40.] was the lowest I found. This is way more than a rice cooker!! Happy carefree cooking!
I absolutely love, love, love this rice cooker. No more boiling over all over my stove. I can set this, and it frees me up to do other things. My first experience with this cooker, I put the ingredients in, set it, and it began cooking my rice to perfection. It freed me up to take the dogs for a walk, and finish the rest of my dinner. I think the most amazing feature to this machine is, not only does it know when the rice is done, but it automatically sets it to warm, so you have fluffy, hot rice when your ready for dinner. Another feature I was very impressed with is, I could store the leftover rice in the cooker bowl in the refrigerator. Next night, I put it back in the cooker, turned it on warm and I had perfect rice again for dinner. Another marvelous feature to this machine is cleanup. The removable parts are all dishwasher safe, and easy to take apart, and replace. It is also a very elegant addition to my kitchen. It is a nice looking machine, and matches everything in my kitchen. I am a Hamilton Beach fan. You get quality items for a less. And I thank Wal~Mart for carrying this brand.
THIS RICE COOKER IS GREAT FOR MAKING RICE, BEANS, WHOLE GRAINS, PASTA, RICE MIXES AND IT HAS A STEAMING TRAY FOR VEGATABLES AS WELL. THE CAPACITY THIS RICE COOKER MAKES IS FROM 4 TO 20 CUPS AND IT COMES WITH A STEAMING TRAY A MEASURING CUP TO MEASURE THE RICE AND A SPOON TO MIX THE RICE. I SIMPLY LOVE THE SELECT MODE BUTTON IT HAS FROM WHITE RICE, QUICK RICE, WHOLE GRAIN, HEAT/SIMMER, STEAM/COOK, KEEP WARM AS WELL TOO. IT ALSO HAS A DELAY TIME BUTTON TO PREPARE FOR COOKING UP TO 15 HOURS IN ADVANCE. IT HAS A CONDENSATION COLLECTOR COMPARTMENT TO STORE THE REMAINING COOKING WATER FROM THE RICE COOKER. DO I RECOMMEND THIS RICE COOKER PRODUCT YES I DO ITS GREAT TO OWN AND HAVE IN YOUR HOME. I FIND FOR THE PRICE ITS NOT THAT EXPENSIVE AT ALL FOR THIS RICE COOKER WHEN YOUR'E USING PRODUCT MAKE SURE YOU PUT IT IN A SAFE PLACE SO NO ONE GET'S BURNED AT ALL. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT YOU CAN CLEAN THE STEAMER TRAY AND MEASURING CUP AND THE SPOON AS WELL TOO. THE OUTSIDE OF THIS RICE COOKER YOU CAN CLEAN IT WITH A DAMP CLOTH NOT A WET CLOTH, I WOULDN'T RISK THAT TO MESS UP THE OUTSIDE SURFACE OF THE DIGITAL SETTINGS. THIS IS ACTUALLY MY FIRST TIME USING A RICE COOKER AND I LIKE IT ALOT. THE NEXT THING I WANT TO MAKE IS BEANS AND OTHER STUFF THAT I CAN MAKE IN THIS RICE COOKER, AND JUST SIMPLY ENJOY THIS NEW PRODUCT WHICH I FIND IT PRETTY NICE TO HAVE IN MY KITCHEN TOO.

As usual, I am not disappointed with a product from Hamilton Beach. That alone tells me to expect quality at an affordable price. This 20 cup rice cooker does more than cook rice, it comes with a steamer basket for veggies, and such. The features on the control panel cover any options I could possibly need. There is an option for what kind of rice I'm cooking (white, whole grain, quick rice) and if I'm not cooking rice, I have an option to heat/simmer, steam cook, or just keep something warm. All this can be controlled using the timer function. If that is not enough, there is a delay timer so it's ready and fresh at mealtime. Okay so that's all the really good stuff. I have cooked rice 3 times with this cooker. The first was too mushy (I probably put too much water), the second time, the rice in the bottom was scorched (probably not enough water), the third time was a charm, I even included a picture. If I had to find a way to improve this product, I would say "putting some handles on the cooking pot would be nice, so it is easier to lift out while full of hot food." I really like this rice cooker and I would definitely recommend it any of my friends or family.
