Perfect Iron, Extremely well done, Tons of Steam!

snoozin99 July 28, 2015

Hamilton Beach Digital Iron  First off let me say, if you are using an old iron, throw that thing in the trash. This iron is literally awesome in every way! Personally I don't like ironing, never have LOL, however as most things go, it has to be done. Using this iron today, just truly was a pleasure, it's so fast and the steam option on this iron is amazing! When I got to the bottom seam of the shirt I was ironing, just hitting the steam button once made it flat and straight the first time, and it stayed that way. With my old iron it would take 5-6 passes over the seams of my shirts, and most of the time It literally wouldn't hold. “Just once with this iron!” This iron is as close to using a dry cleaner tool as you can get! I would highly recommend this iron to anyone. This iron is just straight up nice; it carries a 10 year limited warranty and glides so smoothly. It's appealing in appearance; it holds quite a lot of water which makes it easier to do a lot of clothes without stopping. This iron has Loads of Power, Tons of steam, and is just overall a very great iron! If you were to offer me another iron in its place, I would refuse it. The culmination of all the options and the digital display, with perfect amounts of steam, heat and performance, as well as its overall appearance, just makes this the perfect iron. Use it one time and you will love it. 

Excellent Iron

RoniAnne August 13, 2015

Love this Hamilton Beach Durathon Digital Retractable Cord Iron and the purple color...what's not the love! The iron heats up very quickly once you choice your heat setting. Of which you five: Linen, Cotton, Wool, Silk, and Synthetic. The control panel lights up red when you choose your heat setting and goes off when it has reached the desired heat level. The opening to add water to the iron is easily accessible, though using a small funnel makes it easier to pour the water in. The iron glides very nicely across the material, both the steam and spray options work wonderfully! There is a self cleaning option just follow the instructions provided with the iron. I love the the retractable cord, no more waiting for the iron to cool so you can wrap the cord around it to put it away. I one thing I didn't like so much about the iron is that is a little heavier than most irons. This may be due to the retractable cord mechanism. Over all I am very pleased with this iron and look forward to my happy years of use! I hate wrinkles so the iron is my best friend. :-)

Wrinkle free using HB Durathon DIX iron

ZoeMoo July 30, 2015

As we all should remember, when permanent press clothing became available a large number of people QUIT ironing. In my family's home that was not the case. When I got married and set up my own housekeeping I also continued to iron my clothes, whether they were permanent pressed or not. I always wanted my clothes and my family's clothes to be neat and as wrinkle free as they could be. I have owned many irons over the years but the one I am reviewing has more features than any of the ones I've owned before. As I have said before in my previous reviews, I am thankful to receive and review a much needed product. My review is on the HAMILTON BEACH DURATHON DIGITAL RETRACTABLE CORD IRON. Right off the bat, the fact that the cord is retractable tells me that this is a step above most irons. The one I have now does not have this feature and I have to move the cord around each time I start and finish my ironing. The cord Hamilton Beach has provided is 8' long ( stopping at the red indicator on the cord ) and the retractable feature comes in handy when putting the iron away. There is also an indicator that lets you know when it is safe to put the iron away. The water reservoir holds 9 ounces of water and is easy to fill. With 9 ounces of water there will be less time spent on refilling the reservoir. The iron heats up pretty fast due to it's 1700 watts of power. Once hot, this iron provides a continuous vertical stream of steam. You can adjust the amount of steam depending on the type material being ironed. The grip of the iron is comfortable and the sole plate glides smoothly because of the non-stick, scratch resistant surface. The HB Durathon Digital Iron sole plate has 10 times more durable scratch resistant coating than that of the traditional coatings. It also has a 3 way shut off indicator in case you forget to turn it off. Believe it or not, this iron is self-cleaning. I have never had one with this feature. I also never knew about "dry ironing." You would think by now I would have experienced some of these things and had benefited from them. You are never too old to learn and try the more modern approach to a regular task. This product includes safety instructions ( a few that I have ignored out of habit ) that are very important and a guide explaining the parts of the iron and how to use them. It also has a 10 year limited warranty. With all of these features and a reasonable price point of less than $50.00, I would recommend this iron for use in one's home.

Could be a liiiiiiitle bit hotter

LAgrrrl October 23, 2025

Beautiful to look at, heavy duty and great warranty. But it just doesn't outperform any other “less expensive” irons on the “non-steam” heat settings, even up to Linen. I'm gonna use this some more and if it doesn't get hot enough to make ironing a breeze as it claims to, it's going back and I'm getting the Chi which has better reviews (even though about $30 more)

Kinda like it, kinda don't

fell0wsh0pper August 12, 2015

There are lots of good things about this iron, and a couple things that make it hard to use. Basic info for this product includes a 98-inch (about 2.5-meter) fully extended cord. The digital panel allows you to choose by pressing a button what kind of fabric you're be ironing (linen, wool, synthetic, etc). What I like is that at a glance based on the color of the panel light, you can tell the basic temperature of the iron. Blue = cool or off / Pinky-purple = warm / Red = hot. There is an automatic off function which provides great peace of mind. The retractable cord is really nice for easy storage. The cord does retract all the way. The two things I don't like about this iron mainly revolves around adding water. The cap covering the opening is fine, but the iron doesn't include a small cup for more controlled pouring. Maybe I'm just a bad aim, but I had a hard time pouring in the water. When I finally got the water in I think my 5-year-old could have done better. It's just not very easy. Maybe if I used a funnel? The other problem is the purple color of this iron makes it hard to see the water level as you're filling up. I can see the "max" line clearly marked, but I had to keep looking from different angles to see how much water I'd already put in. The designers could have left a clear strip along the purple to make it easier to see the water level. Using this iron is pretty standard. It is a little heavier, so I felt like the iron could do more of the "pressing" work rather than trying to push on it myself. The special Soleplate that covers the metal iron plate seems like a great feature for keeping the iron clean and streak free. That's a problem I've had with other irons, burning something onto the plate and then smearing marks onto my clothing. This iron hasn't done that. Overall, I like this iron, but it's not my favorite. I may have to ask my kids to help me pour in the water....

A Little Steamy

jeeps21 August 3, 2015

Ironing each week is my favorite job, NOT! I really don't know many people who actually enjoying ironing, but I am sure there are some out there. After using a 20 plus year old iron this new iron came at the perfect time. This is a very nice iron; visually it is very pretty purple. The 12 features are great. I like the light up on/off and level selection view. The settings synthetic, silk, wool, cotton and linen are ideal so you are not getting the iron too hot for some fabrics causing burns or damage. The Steam is very steamy so don't get burned. You can use tap water or distilled water in this iron. You can spray or steam, your choice. With the Durathon nonstick soleplate this iron literally glides making your ironing task a little faster. I had no idea what I was missing. This also features auto shut off for those times you may get called away by a screaming child or phone call. The best feature in my opinion is the retractable cord, no more messy and kinked cords, be careful though it retracts very fast. I do need to mention the only negative I found with this is that it is so big. At first I thought I was going to need to use two hands to use this. Although this is a large iron I felt it worked great and the steam features were awesome. If they could make this a little smaller it would be perfect

Longevity Cycle Questionable

Jonathan December 4, 2025

This would be the second iron that I have gone through in the past two years. I question the longevity to this Hamilton Beach model iron. During the heating process, you will hear a pop in the sole plate. This is apparently normal since my first iron did exactly the same thing. Heating time is impressingly fast. Ironing effectiveness is another story. For sixty percent to the ironing sessions, the iron performed admirably. I used distilled water as suggested in the instruction manual. This eliminates any calcium/ hard water deposits that would develop over time if using tap water. Unfortunately, the second year, I began to notice a decrease in steam output. Yes, I used the Self-Clean function, but that did not increase the steam output. So, I had to purchase yet another iron, and decided to give this model a second chance. Twenty years ago, I purchased a Panasonic iron. To this day, that iron continues to output steam. Heck, I have even used tap water, but it never slowed down this iron. I cannot say that the new irons Panasonic is selling would stand up to their product of twenty years ago. Products that are manufactured today have a shorter longevity cycle, and are meant to be thrown in the trash. It is this type of strategy that has caused our landfills to become overfilled.
