Not much assembly required. Batteries needed to be fully charged. Two lithium batteries and a charger are included. This machine works quite well, battery life is good, takes about 1 1/2 batteries to complete my standard residential yard. Very easy to put batteries in and out of the compartment. This mower even has headlamps! A good purchase and experience for me.
Worked Great! Self propelled! I would highly recommend. One of the batteries wouldnt charge, I contacted Hart via Chat. Hart has sent one out. They were Great to work with.
I was impressed upon unpacking the mower. Solid construction. Easy to start and use. Mulches grass well (depending on sharpness of blade). Blade is easy to remove for sharpening. No need to worry about gas or oil spilling out. Have only 2 issues. First, need to be sure the handles are properly secured. Sometimes a handle clamp will work its way loose, causing one side of handle to slide. Second, motor has a tendency to overheat and shut down (gets worse during warmer weather). When this occurs, I stop to trim while it cools down.
Got this mover with high expectations because I've used other hart equipment in the past with any issues. This however was not what I was expecting. Mower is really sturdy except one of the front wheels is wobbly right out of the box (could've been damaged in shipping) I charged both batteries fully had think grass using mulch plug this thing was struggling right away I thought I was missing something so checked everything and tried again but as soon as I got to thicker grass blades slowed down putting lost of strain on the motor ran out of first batter after about 75sq ft run time about 20-30 minutes replaced battery with second one and still couldn't finish with waiting to recharge. I still would give this a solid 9 out of 10 for design, comfort and self propell power as everything worked perfectly. I think electric mowers just need more time to catch up to gas equipment.
My bar was pretty high, as I have a relatively new mower with a Honda engine that starts on the first pull almost every time. It's self-propelled, and you can control the speed by how hard you squeeze the levers on the handle. It's intuitive, easy, and I love it. I would like to go all electric and not have to mess with gas cans, but nearly all the electric self propelled mowers' speed controls are little sliders you reach over and adjust with your thumb. That would be a major step backwards to me. This Hart mower has "Perfect Pace", which is a system where when you push in on the handle, the mower takes off, and when you slow down or stop, the mower does likewise. It was on sale at the end of the season, so I decided to try it out. It arrived and I gave it a 'test drive' by mowing the lawn, even though it didn't need it that much. The mower did fine, but I never got comfortable with it. I kept thinking it was just a 'learning curve' on my part, but by the end of the job I figured out what the issue was. With my old mower, I would often say "I'm going out to chase the lawn mower around for a while." This was almost literally true since when I squeeze the handles, the mower takes off and goes at the speed I want (faster for thin areas, slower for thick), and I just walk behind it. With the Perfect Pace system, you have to actually push to make it go. I'd describe it as a "power-assisted push mower". After finishing the lawn, I returned it to the store. If they ever get a speed control system like my old mower, I'll be in, but till then, I'll stay with what I have.
This self-propelled Hart is a much worse design than the REAL self-propelled mower Hart sold a few years ago. You have to do as much pushing to get the "push-to-propel" PerfectPace™ working as you do with the much cheaper non-propelled model. Save your money. I loved my older Hart ; it made mowing my bumpy lawn easy for this old gal. Very sorry I purchased this one. Having said that, it works and cuts more or less as advertised, but they seem to have a very short life expectancy, as do their batteries. I'll try another brand when this one dies.
This has been the absolute worst product I have ever purchased ! I have had more problems with this thing than I have space to write . Mainly it not starting . I have handles fully extended and all of that . It is Fantastic when It Works , Will Not Buy Anything Ever Again With Name Heart On It .
Mower is great, warranty sucks. $18 part broke on mower on 3rd time using mower. Closest service center is a state away. Would not send me the part, wanted me to drive 2 1/2 hours to service center wand wait 3-4 days for them to get part, then drive 2 1/2 hours each way to pick back up. Ended up buying part online. Live in Des Moines Iowa. There are 300 Walmarts in Iowa but closest service center is Omaha Nebraska.
Arrived with defective battery, rust covering the wheel link bar, small dent on the mower --- all of this noticed after opening the brand new box. Going into more detail now, I honestly don't know what to say. 1 of the 2 batteries will not charge (charger just does 2 rapid blinks). This means I now have to go through the hassle of contacting support and potentially having to take the battery/pack to an authorized Hart Repair shop. Looking on their website, the closest one is 1.5 hours away, so if that is the case, I would never recommend this brand to anyone. If they replace it by mail, I may change this review, but it still sucks that it arrived in a non-working state because it causes me concern for the longevity of this brand. Next, the link bar is covered in rust, which is crazy since it should be brand new? The rust can be seen in the attached pictures. The mower also arrived with a small dent in cutting deck, which also makes no sense, since the box itself was not damaged. I can only guess this dent happened during assembly and it was put into the box like that, which is again, very worrisome about potential other issues. Now, actual use. The movement assist, self-propelled feature, is terrible. It requires you to disengage locks, then push the handle into itself, so if you are not the exact right height for the mower, keeping it engaged is very, very awkward. My wife and I both had problems and we disliked it so much, that we ended up engaging the locks to turn it off. This means, we paid more money, for a feature that we wanted to have, but do not want to use due to how poorly designed it is. Why not just have a squeeze in handle like 99% of all other power assisted motors? When doing something new, it should be an improvement, not making it 10x worse. Also, the bagging appears to be significantly worse than any mower I have ever used in my life and grass is getting stuck all inside the housing that is within the cutting deck (it has plastic pieces that route air inside, that kicks it into the bag). It is moving grass into all those plastic pieces, which makes grass slowly come out the top. And, it doesn't appear to have enough power / air to push the grass back into the bag, so the bag only fills up about 1/3rd to 1/2 of the way. Next, the cutting is meh. I went from a 10 year old, Troy Bilt TB230, with the original blade (never sharpened) and that mower outperforms this one on cutting and bagging. The blade that comes with this mower, seems to have very little lift for bagging and it consistently leaves random grass strands that are taller than the rest. This means you have to keep spot checking for missed spots, due to the blade being so meh. Again, this never happened with my 10 year old, never sharpened, blade on my old mower. Overall, I would not recommend this. Having faulty parts, on arrival, having to deal with service centers that an hour and half away (required to take there to use that 5 year warranty!), and lackluster performance should make anyone weary for longevity. Going to see how Hart deals with these issues. If their support is good, may end up sticking it out. If not, will just return to Walmart and try a different brand. All in all, my first adventure into using an electric mower is not starting off well, but trying to keep hope alive.
The mower itself is OK. The handles are annoying but it gets the job done. The batteries are a HUGE problem. This page says that this can cut 3/4th an acre on the two batteries provided. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE. It takes me 7 fully charged batteries to mow my 3/4th of an acre. And because the batteries can't immediately be charged after use as they are 'too hot' I can't mow and charge at the same time. And as the batteries COMPLETELY drain if you leave them around for a few days, you'll need to charge the batteries AGAIN for a few hours before you can get ready to mow at all. The batteries will also overheat while they are charging, and the status never changes back to charge mode, so you might just be waiting for no charge to happen. Not sure if I can return this, but will do my best. If you have more than .25 acres, do not purchase this.
