I purchased a VEVOR auger recently. What a mistake. It was horrible. So I decided to get one of these Hart battery powered auger. This thing is super easy to put together and is really powerful and does the work with ease and you don't have to use gas or try to start the darn thing with a pull start. I highly recommend that if you're in the need for an auger that you try one of these from HART. You won't be disappointed.
I saw a video of this drilling through clay and rock, but I was a little skeptical. I had a contract to build a deck and the owner's yard was clay. This auger powered through the dry clay with no problems. There was a spot in the yard that had a rock base and the auger went through that as well. Like any auger, in some spots you will need to drill down some, pull the auger up, clear out the hole, and repeat. I only used this with the include 8" bit. If you need a wider hole in clay or rock, I would drill it out with the 8" bit first and then step up to a larger bit. I think this will be faster than using a 12" bit to start with because the included bit has a pointed tip, while most 12" bits I've used have a flatter tip. If you are drilling in soft dirt, you can use the 12" bit to start. It has lots of torque, so hold on tight and stabilize yourself. It saved us so much time versus using a post hole digger. Renting a 2-man auger twice cost more than purchasing the Hart 40V auger. It is well worth it.
Okay- So....I was not about to shovel dig 25 fence post holes by hand. I didn't want a gas-powered auger, so I purchased this one. I charged the battery before starting; and it dug all 25 holes! Now, I don't have just soil...I have half soil and half rock and did have to use a leverage pipe for some of the rock. But it sure beat the shovel digging! Now about the con to this- I had to reverse the auger before it would go into forward mode even when the light was green....and sometimes it would take 2-3 times before it would go forward (Inside or out of the hole).
Bolt it really tight I've already lost two of the four bolts. Used zip ties to replace the two bolts that I lost but aside from that this thing is a beast. I live in Wyoming and our soil is rock hard dry clay. I can get to about one foot easily. And struggle to dig two feet but it is still possible just takes some patience and multiple batteries. I heard if you wet the ground the night or two before it makes it a breeze.
It was very easy to assemble and use. We are adding a pool deck and needed to dig holes. This save time and energy! Would definitely recommend.
We are planting 50 trees on our new property and the one hole we dug so far - OMG I can't even express how this will save our time!!!! YAY!
Wow I am very impressed with this Hart auger. Work better than my two stroke auger. Light weight battery last long. Might need to buy extension for the auger bit to go deeper than 3 feet
Haven't used it yet, still cold out, seems ok
I bought this as I already have a few 40v Hart tools (lawnmower, weed trimmer, leaf blower, etc). The power, build %26 feel are great. The auger has plenty of power, but the problem is the anti-kickback feature is way too sensitive. Anytime there is much of a resistance (small rock, 1/4" root) the anti-kickback sensor stops the auger. I worked with it on several holes %26 was successful with digging in areas with very minimal resistance. The auger powered through all types of soil, compacted or not. I returned the auger only because the anti-kickback is way too sensitive to all the tool to function properly.
Arrived and put it together. Put battery on the charger and wouldnt charge, blinking indicates a defective battery. this is my first Hart tool and will be my last. Never had a problem with the Ryobi line or any other battery platforms with getting defective batteries. It will be returned tomorrow. Unacceptable
