Walter loved the Tuff Stuff Retriever when he saw it. We threw it a few times and he retrieved with ease. However, when he laid down to rest and chew, the tuff stuff was not tough. Walter is not a hard chewer, but he demolished the red, stuffed portion of the toy in a few minutes. To save the rest of the toy, we cut the fabric and stuffing out. We were disappointed that the rope was not tough either. He shredded the rope in no time, making a mess. We were concerned for his health, as he was ingesting the rope fragments. This is a good toy for throwing and retrieving, but not for the dog to play with unattended. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I received the Harts Tuff Stuff Retriever Toy in exchange for my honest feedback. I am not happy with this toy at all. I threw it to my dog and within two minutes it was completely shredded. We barely got to play with it because it was destroyed in one bite. I would not recommend this toy to anyone who has a tuff chewer. The fabric is not durable at all. My dog loved the Hartz Tough Stuff Retriever. Well made of very durable, quality fabric. Saydee will never chew through these fabrics. It resembles a squid in shape with a handle allowing tug play as well as easy to toss and retrieve. No frayed fabric edges or rough spot to cause irritation or make it easier to destroy. I love the size. My hands don't come in contact with the chewed on sections. I highly recommend to anyone who has a dog thats tough on toys. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I recieved the hartz tuff stuff retriever and my dog loves it. He can be as rough with it he wants and he doesn't get it tore up fast like any toy he has played with. I love it because he has so much fun with it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I bought the Hartz Tuff Stuff Retriever yesterday for my medium-sized (25kg/55lbs) three-year-old groodle (golden doodle). Lexxy loved the toy, but within half an hour, she had chewed a hole in the 'heavy-duty ballistic nylon shell' to access the stuffing within and started to undo the 'sturdy tightly twisted rope'. I strongly disagree with the manufacturer's claim that this product is 'Perfect for aggressive chewers'. Perhaps I should offer my Lexxy's services to Hartz as a product tester because they obviously don't know how to produce toys for truly aggressive chewers, as evidenced by all the reviews on this site. I wish that I had read these prior to purchase and saved myself the money and my dog's disappointment as I'll have to throw the toy out because I don't want her eating all the bits she has pulled off.
I was actually pretty excited that this may have finally been a toy my dog didn't annihilate but unfortunately he did in about 2 days. At first I thought it would hold up and seemed pretty durable but the rope was not tough enough for him. It had a squeaky part inside that he chewed out within hours and it just got worse. Could be great for one who doesn't chew as it seemed pretty heavy duty but not my guy. It didn't really last long enough to give a review of even. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
My husky pup (7mos, 30lbs female) has gone through two of these. She goes absolutely crazy for them, but they just do not hold up. Beware if you choose to give this to your dog, because they'll get into the stuffing quick. You can still salvage the rope by cutting away the stuffed pouch, however.
Good toy for a dog that just wants to tug and fetch. Wouldn't leave it out for any rough play. My dog really likes it! I expect it probably won't last long but I imagine we will have fun destroying it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
The Hartz Tuff Stuff Retriever rope unraveled right out of the package. The rope is soft and not held together with anything so each piece unravels more as it is used. The nylon part feels strong. I have a gentle dog that likes to play fetch so this part has held up, though this might not be for chewers. I do like that this has a handle for me to hold onto and use to throw it. I am saying I would recommend it, but only for gentle use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Sasha loves this toy! Sadly after 7 hours of having it, the toy ripped on end by the rope. Easy repair job and worth fixing because my dog love is. 2 days later the seam ripped open. I will be fixing that too. Sasha can be a little rough on her toys, so I'm used to fixing them. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
