This was not harsh or powdery and didn't have a strong odor. It hasn't irritated my poochie and seems to work great! The collar is soft and flexible and can get wet and is still effective. Also, the collar stays on securely.

I immediately noticed the pleasant smell of the collar and how soft and flexible the collar was. It went on with ease and was simple to put on. The purple color was a nice contrast as well. The cat is leaving it alone and when I pick her up that light scent was very nice and not over powering. I highly recommend the color for comfort, style and I really like that the effectiveness is for 7 months. Before using the collar I had a situation were my other pet who is a dog woke up one morning and couldn't walk and was in pain. As it turned out he had contracted lymes disease from a tick. He is doing better but was on medication for a month and a very expensive hospital visit for him. My decision was to get collars that I can trust and be confident in. That is why Hartz was the choice for me. It lasts 7 months and I don't have to worry about any of my animals for the season. With it being so easy to put on and having it last long is a bonus. At first my dog didn't like it because the scent might be a bit too overwhelming for her. She tried to get it off of her without success. 10 mins later, she was fine and playing in the yard without any itching or scratching at all. As the weather started to warm up, I feel very comfortable letting her playing more in the yard without any problems. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I fitted our collie with the Hartz Ultra Guard Flea and Tick Collar a few weeks ago in hopes of limiting the number of ticks that latch on to the poor girl every spring and summer. The fit is good and didn't seem to bother her much. It's hard to tell what kind of long term effect the collar will have but the results after 3 or 4 weeks has been pretty good. We've only pulled a few ticks off of her compared to 5 or 6 per week, and those ticks were by her hind legs which is a good sign. The collar is flexible, seems comfortable, and is waterproof which is convenient during the summer. I'm very happy with the collar so far. EASY TO USE AND LONG LASTING

Thankfully, upon opening the package, the scent isn't too harsh and over powdery like competitors do. I applied the color on my medium size dog, she starting scratching and getting the meds to spread onto her skin. Being is Southeastern Kentucky, fleas & ticks are very brutal already this time of year. I've not seen any of either on her yet and I check very frequently. She didn't have any fleas before using and Hartz has helped keep them off for the summer. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My dog finally got some relief. This collar fit perfectly and is really easy to put on. Within a day or 2, I can tell he was getting some relief. Itching subsided and evidence of fleas have almost completely disappeared. This has been an effective product for my pup. I will be using on all my dogs. . I have three dogs and I purchased three of these in November from our Walmart store. I got them for the winter months when fleas and ticks should be minimal. I previously used FrontLine and most recently the Seresto collar. I never had a live tick on my dogs since using those products. Since November, less than one month, my dogs have been hit with more ticks than I have seen in six years on my dogs. I have had to pay my vet to remove tick heads at about $70 each. As I said I bought these collars for the winter months and was going to return to the Seresto collars in the spring, but I trusted the 7-month life promised on the collars. Now I have lost my receipt and cannot even return these lousy collars. Do not waste your money or your dog's health.
