Hefty 12.2 Gal. Slim Lockable StepOn Trash Can, Black

I have a cat that gets into the garbage ALL the time. I also have two dogs that shove their noses in the garbage can every chance they get. With this trash can none of them are able to get in the garbage nor can they topple it over. It came perfect, no problems with it whatsoever. I know some people had problems with dented cans and such but I didn't have that problem. The locking lid is very easy to use and very easy to open as well. I highly recommend this to anyone who has animals that like to get into the trash can or to knock it over.

Almost 13 Gallons. Hold the bag well. Bag barely shows. One of the few that is step on from the side instead of front. Wish it came in gray. Wish the kids didnt keep locking it.

Great item. Works easily to lock and unlock. Keeps the dog out of the trash. I love it.

Hefty makes the only kitchen garbage cans with tops that lock, that I have found. Great idea, just what I was looking for! This was designed by someone with a dog; a big dog...... a dawg! It's true, the top lock causes the foot pedal to stick. Better that than trash all over the floor. The Hefty 10 gallon does not stick, but the lock does not always catch. Pick your poison.

My dog is a naughty boy and he broke the spring latch on my garbage can which I loved so I had to buy a new one. The can I had was redesigned and the reviews were horrible. My dog is unfortunately quite smart and had even managed to open my previous garbage can by pressing his nose on the latch a couple times so I knew I needed to get something to keep him out. The last one broke when he knocked it over and it landed just right to break the latch allowing him to get the chicken bones I was keeping from him. I like the idea of having a foot petal to operate the can but as soon as I put in any sort of food I lock the cover so I am not really using that function very often. The lock is great, very secure, snaps into place very easily. Removing the lock is a little more difficult but I don't have any kids and as long as I have my hands free, this is not an issue. I did quite a bit of research and I can say with certainty that if you need to keep you kids or pets out of the trash, this will be great for you. Only downfall is that I wish it had a liner lock like my last trash can. It allowed me to conceal the trash liner inside the can and it didn't fall when the bin started to get full.

I bought two of these (one garbage, one recycle). One of them works fine; the other sometimes gets caught when using the foot pedal and won't lift at all. It seems to be happening less and less, but still annoying. Sturdy enough for regular kitchen use otherwise.
