This was so fun and pretty easy! I broke down the steps into a few days which was perfect for a busy, working mama. Even though my artistic talent may not be elite, it was relaxing for sure to mold the trinket bowl and to paint it. Once dried, the varnish was easy to apply (although I may have used too much). I'm excited to use this to store some jewelry pieces. The trinket bowl appears durable but time will tell. My only criticism is it was hard to not make indents with my nails (which aren't even long at all). Perhaps there is a method I am not aware of to avoid this issue.
The Hello Hobby Trinket Tray Kit was easy to use and very intuitive to design if you like crafting and making art. It is best used for trays/bowls/plates per the instructions but I think there are endless design possibilities! The kit comes with a block of clay prepackaged in plastic, which was still very moist and pliable and then you just roll it out, shape it, and bake it in the oven for 15 min per 1/4 inch of thickness. I left it in the oven for 18 mins which worked just fine. Once the clay cools, you paint it with the brushes and colorful paint that are included in the kit and then let it dry. I let the paint dry overnight, then applied varnish the next day and let that dry for a full 24 hrs. The varnish is supposed to add protection but like any ceramic piece, it'll break if you drop it but it seems pretty durable so far! The trays aren't food or dishwasher safe so I'm using it as decorative piece and will probably end up putting jewelry in it, but since I painted a tomato design on it, I thought it would look cute beside the cherry tomatoes we're growing . :) This would be a great activity for elementary/middle school kids too although I'm a full grown adult and enjoyed it as well!
Very disappointed in this. I worked hard to work the clay and by the time I had the tray ready to go in the oven, it was smooth and looked good. When it came out of the oven, it was rough. The work I'd have to put in to sand it to get it smooth again isn't worth it, plus I don't have fine enough sand paper and the kit doesn't come with any. It doesn't come with any basic tools. My 2 year old didn't care about any of it, but the quality is definitely lacking. Not even worth painting.
i love having random little hobbies to do during my free time, so i was really excited to try this clay and paint kit, but it did not meet my expectations at all…. i did like that this kit came with a lot of different materials (clay, paint, brushes, glaze) but i did need a few tools of my own to properly handle the clay. the clay was extremely tough to work with, and i had a really hard time handling it enough to make a shape i liked. when i finally got the trays in the oven to bake, the edges of my tray completely flopped over and everything just baked flat into a plate shape instead of the tray with edges i had molded. even after 30 minutes in the oven the clay was still not completely hard. the painting part was enjoyable though, and i liked the colors that came in the kit. i don't like that the glaze didn't make the trays properly shiny though
This was a great little kit. It has enough clay and supplies for at least 3 trays, depending how big you make them. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. The clay cured a little bit soft, but stayed together and didn't break. I am not the most artistic, so my tray isn't the best looking, but the paint and glaze are perfect for this craft.
I was really excited to try out this kit but unfortunately it was a disappointment. The clay was very dry and cracked easily when we were trying to shape it. Even after following the instructions our pieces were warped and falling apart after baking them. The idea is adorable and would have made a fun craft if it had turned out better.
Overall the craft kit was decent. It's a really cute idea for craft lovers who enjoy working with new materials they haven't tried before! It would make a good gift. I do recommend watching the oven closely though as you bake the clay. I did not and unfortunately over baked it to where it cracked. I love that they give directions on how to make a tray but that you are able to make other things with it too if you choose to not make a tray. I ended up make two small pieces that I'll turn into magnets with the extra clay.
My daughter had a lot of fun creating a trinket tray with this kit. The clay was easy to work with and painting was fun. I was able to customize the colors I wanted as well by mixing. I liked that I was able to make something unique and not follow a specific design. It has held up very well since creating it.
I really wanted to love this, and looked forward to spending a weekend crafting as a family and making a little jewelry tray. Unfortunately the is really was not a good product. I spent over an hour trying to work the clay into a tray, and the clay was really hard to work with. I used my hands, as well as the suggested rolling pin. That worked a little better, but it stuck to my work surface, even when using a silicon mat (which was also suggested in the instructions). After forming the tray as best I could, I followed the instructions for baking. The edges of the tray dropped/ sagged but I tried to have a positive mindset that it just looked more abstract! After baking, I removed from the oven and let it cool completely, as instructed. Then I went to go paint the tray and barely touched the edge and it broke off. As you can see in the picture, I can see another crack forming on the other end of the try too. Unfortunately this really isn't the type of clay/ material that seems to cure/ harden appropriately. This product is unfortunately a miss for me and not something I would buy for my family.
I received this kit for free in exchange for my honest opinion. It includes clay, paint pots, 2 paintbrushes, and gloss varnish, giving you everything needed right in the box to shape, paint, and seal cute little dishes. We had a blast creating our very own dish. It's super beginner-friendly and makes for a relaxing, hands-on craft session. Once dry and sealed with the included varnish, the finished trays turns out very cute. Perfect activity to spark creativity.
