Hillbilly Elegy DVD Movie

Since my wife and I had read the book, we thought it would be interesting to see the movie. The movie itself was fine, but (as is typical for films) there was a lot of information that was overlooked. My recommendation would be to read the first.

This is an excellent movie that gives you an excellent picture of the character building years of VP Vance. You'll enjoy it! Also, this is a difficult movie to find! I finally found it at ONLY at Walmart. I highly recommend that you buy it from them.

Tastefully done. Hard to believe a child raised in the US actually endured what he did as a child and young adult. Based on the biography of JD Vance. Produced by Ron Howard. Amazing that he rose above the dysfunction in his family to become the awesome person he is today. Our Vice President. This is a movie all Americans should watch.

This was a very engaging book! To read about Vice President, JD Vance's childhood was eye opening. It goes to show you that despite being in such low places in his life as a young man, his hard work and dedication payed off! The people in his life, at each and every turn, influenced him in ways that he turned the good, bad and the ugly into positive decisions!

A very well done movie. Well performed by actors and compelling story weaving formative flashbacks throughout a current crisis involving the protagonist and a mother whose struggles are harming her family. Protagonist decides what family means for him, and see how generations of struggles reach down and affect even himself. Though very well paced, the movie ends abruptly. But the rest of the story can be found easily as it is based on the real life story of Senator JD Vance.

I had never heard of this book, must less, the movie until JD Vance ran as VP. I read the book first and knew I needed to watch the movie too. The movie is eye opening regarding the up bringing of JD Vance. He had it rough. This movie left out so much tragedy %26 abuse that the book included. Great casting by Ron Howard. Highly recommend.

Bought this bc I want to know what VP JD Vance faced in the life he was given. It is encouraging to know the strength GOD has put in each of us to face adversities and come through them stronger.. I'm grateful he has continued to use that strength for the good of our country.

I've always liked Glenn Close and Amy Adams. They both play challenging characters in this story. Glenn Close is unrecognizable and the grandma. Amy Adams is the drug addicted daughter trying to raise 2 kids. The youngest kid is JD Vance. This story is about him growing up in a disfunctional family, overcoming hardships and becoming a person of character and honor. A good story regardless of your political leanings.

Glad I bought and watched this movie. However be warned it is difficult to watch. Lots of foul language and “Jerry Springer” behaviors. But amazing that JD Vance overcame his background. Movie jumps around time wise and can be confusing (I blame Ron Howard ) but the acting is very good.
