I usually slice these up for breakfast, brown them a little bit, and eat them with eggs and toast. I had to stop buying fast food breakfast every day for the past few months, and thought of making my own breakfast burritos. So, I got a pack of this smoked sausage and sliced it about 1/4" then cut it into four pieces and browned them a bit. Mixed them with eggs, cheese, and some crispy crowns and roll them up in a burrito, and you've saved $5.00 or more. Walmart did that for me!
My family loves this smoked sausage. I cut it into slices and saute it with sweet onion, sweet peppers, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms for a quick, easy, satisfying dinner. Just add your favorite saute sauce and you have a nutritious, easy meal. You can also add cooked pasta noodles and shredded cheese. BBQ sauce is a great compliment too.
I used this Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage to make Swamp Beans. Clam down it's not what you think. Use about 1 to 1 1/2 lbs. fresh green beans. Add 1 onion diced and as many potatoes as you like. Cut the sausage into bite size pieces. I use the smaller red potatoes. Dump everything in your slow cooker, add salt and pepper and 2 cups chicken broth. Cook on low 6-7 hours and dinner is ready. The Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage adds so much flavor.
This is a regular purchase for us. not only do we cook with it when we make things like cabbage and potatoes, but we fry it up for breakfast and sometimes I'll cut some of and roast it right over the stove burner then put it in a bun and eat it like a brat! keep skewers on hand!
This sausage never disappoints! I use it for a terrific smoked sausage stew with red potatoes, baby carrots, celery, parsley, etc. But just baked in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes is great too. Use in place of a boring hot dog, cut up into scrambled eggs, or as a low carb snack at night. I always have one in the freezer ready to go.
We use this sausage rope in so many ways. Sliced and fried with potatoes and topped with cheddar for breakfast. Added to Macaroni and cheese for lunch. When I cut it into 5 inch lengths, I score the tops and broil them in the toaster oven and use them either in buns or for breakfast with eggs etc. Sometimes just a quick bite in a hurry we cut a length and microwave it to eat on the run.
First of all it's HIllshire Farms and you can't beat their quality with a stick. Secondly look at the price? It's less than $4 and I can get 4 meals out of it easily. It's versatile. I order this every week and put it in the freezer so I will always have some meat on hand. I can cook it up in the oven or in a skillet as is. I can use it on pasta, with breakfast with potatoes and vegetables. I keep several pouches of gravy on hand so I can make gravy to go with this mostly Like to use it in a stir fry with a bunch of veggies and some noodles or rice. It's really great to toss in some slices with my ramen noodles. It seems low in fat, when I fry it in a skillet there isn't hardly any grease in the pan. I like to slice it kind of thin and let the side brown and even get a little crispy it's so good and has so much flavor. I love this stuff but I'm kind of prejudiced I used to make it. I worked in this department at Hillshire Farms for 4 years, I did it all ground and mixed the meat up hung it on sticks to be smoked and packaged it up at the end. It's smoked in a real smoke house that's real smoke flavor not some artificial smoke flavor. It's really good meat to begin with. Hillshire Farms is really super clean and has really high quality control standards.
The smoked sausage is an easy main dish fried in a skillet with sliced onions or grilled for cookouts, and also makes a flavorful addition to soups and casseroles. For an easy appetizer most people love, cut up narrow slices and simmer in applesauce for an hour or until the applesauce reduces to a thick sauce. Served with toothpicks, this makes for a very cost-effective addition to a buffet.
Yes, I will recommend this item because I buy it all the time. It's not fresh the individual the fills the order should look closely at the items before placing it in the cart. I will return it and replace it for the same item. It's an item we use all the time.
As Marge Simpson famously said "the secret ingredient is salt". The is nearly inedible. No amount of ketchup or mustard could mask the immense amount of of salt in this product. I salt my food - fries, eggs, tomatoes, more. Never would I reach this level of saltiness. Not only is the salt level way off the scale, but it is mealy. More like a cooked pudding than a sausage. I could postulate that I got a very salty sausage because of insufficient mixing, but that wouldn't account for the additional problem of the soft, mealy texture. There are some Hillshire Farms products I like. This is the complete opposite. I tossed 80% of it, and will NEVER purchase it again.
