Good texture typical of roast beef. Not grainy (too old), but also not tough. Has just a bit more salty taste than I care for, but that's typical with roast beefs. Tough to find a deli choice with better flavor. The container with lid helps preventing dehydration unlike the cheap thin bags you get at the deli counter. Bought these and ate before, and it stays on my grocery wish list.
I live miles from the nearest Arby's, so when I opened this ultra thin roast beef in its humble plastic tub, I felt like a pioneer discovering a new continent. The first thing I noticed was the sheer amount of protein packed into those paper-thin slices. It's like the beef decided to go on a diet but kept all the muscle-building benefits, which is perfect for my post-lawn-mowing lunch cravings. I set up a makeshift sandwich station in my kitchen, complete with a small pot of homemade gravy that I simmered for an hour while the cows outside stared enviously. I layered the meat, drenched it in that rich, salty gravy, and added a handful of crisp lettuce. I deliberately left out eggs because the label promised none, and I didn't want to accidentally start a breakfast-for-dinner scandal. The result was an Arby's-style roast beef sandwich that could convince a city dweller that we have culinary superiority out here. The meat was so tender that it practically melted in my mouth, and the gravy soaked into every crevice, turning a simple lunch into a celebratory feast. Even my dog, who usually snubs my cooking, gave me a look that said "you finally got it right." I've since made this a weekly ritual: open the tub, pour a little gravy, assemble the sandwich, and sit on the porch to enjoy the view of endless fields while pretending I'm in a commercial. If you're in a remote area, lacking an Arby's, and craving a protein-packed, gravy-drenched lunch that won't surprise you with hidden eggs, this thing is your new secret weapon. It's cheap, convenient, and turns a bland lunch into a memorable event.
As is, out of the container, it's pretty good.... BUT... if you slice it into think strips and saute it with peppers and onions, it makes an awesome Philly sandwich! Add some cheese and a toasted sub/hoagie bun... it's really good! My son likes it sauteed without the peppers and onions and adds some Arby's sauce. Says its really good too. Occasionally, you will find a gristle or leader in the meat but overall, it is good quality.
Loved this item! Taste, texture, everything! I made some roast beef sandwiches on toasted Brioche rolls, added a slice of jalapeno/habanero cheese with some horseradish sauce. Another time, added some BBQ sauce, heated the beef up, and put it on a toasted sesame seed hamburger bun for a traditional BBQ beef sammich. Goo-oood!
Whoever the shopper was did an excellent job of making sure I got all of my items of food. The driver did a good job also as he brought up my groceries I checked to make sure everything was there. Thank you Very Much I hope it's like this every time
I've then buying this sliced roast beef for 15 years now. I love it and so does everyone else. I honestly cannot say if the sliced roast beef in the deli is any better. I can eat this by itself and I have made a meal out of it. It's really tasty. Try it. You won't be disappointed. . It's well worth prize.
Hillshire Farms really does make some of the finest deli meats anywhere. The slices are just right, not to thick not to thin. I use their meats to make sandwiches, subs, and in my salads. They make a great crostini with small slices of cheese and thinly sliced apples. The texture and quality are very much something that is paid alot of attention during the processing of these meats. You can tell with every bite.
This isn't like someone took a roast beef an sliced it, but I like it because it's just like Arby's. With some great value horsey sauce, lettuce, onion soup, and a nice roll, dip meat into soup and let drip off, place warm beef on a roll with lettuce, it's almost exactly like a Arby's roast beef sandwich. I then wrap in plastic wrap and nuke for 10 sec, comes out just like unwrapping the Arby's.
After spending way too much money on roast beef from the deli we decided to give this a try. The quality and taste are both really good. We love it on subs or simply added with white American cheese. I've had it both hot and cold and liked it. I also like the plastic container versus a deli sandwich bag.
The flavor was good, but there is about 10% grisly bits. It was hard to enjoy my sandwiches when so many bits of gristle was included with the meat. I've taken it off my on line shopping list.
