My mare used to have a traditional salt block (rectangular with a coarser texture) in her stall that she never touched. She is very curious so I figured I would see if having a salt lick on a rope would make any difference in her interest and it did! She uses this all of the time and I usually have to replace it about every 4 months (usually sooner in the summer months). It gives me peace of mind knowing she has access to the salt she needs, and her enthusiasm for drinking shows it. Her water bucket is consistently one of the lightest when we clean it every morning and always has a good dent it in when we top it off throughout the day. This is super easy to install, I just used a double ended snap with one end clipped on to the rope, and the other end on an eye hook that we use for cross ties.

My horses love this salt block! I also prefer purchasing this rather than the typical salt blocks because this is salt from the Earth. No additives, no processing, just natural minerals and the way salt is supposed to be, making it a healthier option.

I bought this for a horse living in a mare motel. I like that it won't dissolve in the rain, and I like I can easily attach to her stall. My horse simply loves her Himalayan salt lick! I personally like the convenience to give her free choice salt lick than adding a portion of salt to her feed, like I've done in the past. Although she has a salt lick all year around, specially during the winter months I think it is important to offer her a free choice salt lick to encourage her to drink water. I ordered the "medium 6.6 lbs with a rope" about a month ago, and it seems it will last for at least 3 to 4 months. I'm highly satisfied with this product.

My horse has never used his regular white salt block, so I thought I would try one of these. It's been in his stall for several months now, and he's completely uninterested. I've even tried putting carrots on top of it, thinking that if he licked it by accident, he might start using it. No luck. I gave it to a friend and am going to try something else. I gave it three stars not because of quality, but just to indicate that it's not a sure thing for all horses. And since my horse doesn't eat the regular blocks, either, it's probably him, not the salt block!

I've bought Himalayan Salt Licks before from Tractor Supply, and the horses gobble them up fast. I bought this one, and they don't like it. There are a few licks on it, but it just sits there. I've got a mini who will eat anything, and she won't go near it. It was expensive, too.

My 6 year old horse got electrolyte imbalance, low magnesium and low potassium after licking this salt block all day, He drank 4 buckets of water each day - his stall was soaked in urine. This contributed to irregular heart beats and a $6000 vet bill to bup him back to normal. When we removed the Himalayan salt his water intake was normal and his stall was dry.
