We have received two months out 12 and we love it. This was a gift to my daughter, who loves plants and ready to build her own collection. The first plant just happened to be a Begonia and was high on her wish list. Plants have arrived during cold weather in really nice condition and have been in wonderful health. Thank you!
Purchased 3/30/21, so began this journey with April's plant, a 4inch marble peperomia freshly repotted in a 6 in terra cotta pot. I got a lot of fun plants I may not have picked out myself and quickly grew to love, a umbellata fig and a fabian aralia were the highlights for me. Others were misses, like the money tree, it arrived really soaked, and I should have checked it sooner, but gave it two weeks to dry out before circling back. At that point it had already been too wet for too long and was still soaked. For December, two 4inch plants arrived, a holly with fake berries, and selaginella moss. Unfortunately the heat pack was against this sensitive moss plant so one side was completely burned, but the holly was perfect and one plant a month is good enough. For February the plant came early and decorated for Valentine's, this was a nice touch so it didn't bother me too much that it was another 4inch plant repotted into 6 inch terra cotta. But it did remind me of another plant that had arrived out of the usual schedule, which was already hard to gauge. March's plant never arrived, so it was really only 11 months worth of plants. Besides the 4inchers mentioned, all the other plants were in 6inch nursery pots, most outgrowing those pots even! I prefer to repot a new plant so I can get a look at the roots and make use of my vintage pots. All the plants shipped in cold weather came with damage, which is expected being exposed to such cold but I suspect was made worse by the heat pack right against the foliage. The heat packs were a nice touch though of course. Hirt's can't do much about the weather, so I don't count points against them for anything there. One month arrived with a bonus bag of Tilth's Houseplant soil mix, which I have come to love, but have come to prefer their Grow mix for my general needs. Overall, I would say this was a fun purchase I would recommend. The email updates to a monthly plant's arrival were sporadic. I never heard back about why I got skipped on what was supposed to be the final month. Both customer service and products are hit or miss, but I'd lean towards hits over misses, enough to keep me coming back to try Hirt's again. I have shopped a good number of online plant shops, and there's only one other besides Hirt's I regularly return to. This plant subscription was a fun thing I believe would make a nice gift, even with the bumbles I think it was a good value.
