Hive Pocket Game

I gave this Hive Pocket Game to my grown grandson for his birthday. He likes it very much, and says that the pocket game is his new favorite game.

This is a good game. It's worth the price, and it came sooner than I expected. The tiles: The little tiles are made of a high quality material that should last eons. The paint used to color the tiles is high quality, and is about as tough and hard as the tiles themselves. All the tiles are well made. One of my tiles had a tiny error in the paint job that could only be noticed upon very close inspection. Besides that, they are all painted with perfect precision. The bag: I really like the carrying bag. It has a nice soft feel to it, and it's made of a decently durable material. The stitching around the top is also strong. The cord used to sinch the bag closed has a slightly cheap feel to it, but it works perfectly. Besides, if you really feel like it, you can always replace it with ease. The gameplay: A single game takes around 5 to 20 minutes. It doesn't take very many games before you start to pick up on the nuances of the game, and begin coming up with your own opening strategies. If you aren't aware, you'll want to read online about the "beetle gate" rule. Also, as you get more advanced, you'll probably want to use the tournament rule: you can't place your queen on your first turn. You'll also want to get the pillbug expansion. It really adds a lot to the gameplay. Overall, it is a quality product that looks and feels nice. The bright colors and minimilistic design adds a nice feel to the gameplay. We play the Standard Edition, so we decided to get the mini. version of The Hive. We Love It.

This game is a lot of fun. Similar to chess, but different. Definitely worth the money.

If you love chess, you'll love this. It's the perfect 2-player go anywhere travel game. I've played this game at the beach, on planes, on trains--it's so portable! Lots of strategy.

Very fun game -- similar to chess, but easier to learn. Quite deep. The pocket game is sufficient; you don't need the larger pieces in the more expensive original version, plus the pocket version comes with two expansion pieces.

My daughter really liked this game. Good gift. Only two players!
