One time while at the beach I wanted pizza for dinner and the only meat I had was some smoked salmon. So I used cocktail sauce, chedder cheese and Motzarella. Since moving to Pullman I found myself craving seafood and found this smoked salmon at Walmart and recreated that pizza. IT WAS GREAT. Even my nephew and the firefighters at Station 2 approved. I also eat it plain on crackers like we did when i was a kid. Great Stuff.
I've tried a lot of smoked salmon selecting them based on sodium content due to diet requirements and personal preferences according to taste, this is truly the best I've found. The sodium content is reasonable and the taste-well it's excellent; it actually has a Smokey taste the texture, while not sliced, is great for my purposes. I will definitely be a continuing buyer.
This is a favorite in my family, and has been for years. The slight sweet taste offsets the rich, salty flavors. The texture is delicate, and diverse, with my mother preferring the moist, soft center, and my sister preferring the dryer exterior. The fish is so tender that it risks going beyond flaky and into something softer. If that's not your cup of tea, you might prefer a different type. I've had this on ramen, on rice bowls,.in spring rolls, in fish tacos, in countless salads, on bagels with cream cheese (SO GOOD!) and other dishes too numerous to type up. I can safely say that it's a dependable and delicious option, that it might be considered a bit salty, oily, or soft, but that I have never regretted buying it, ever. It's amazing in combination with fruits, crackers, cheeses, tomatoes, so if you want some charcuterie it's a bit messy but worth it. Highly recommend it, it's so flavorful that it can be used to add flavor to dishes that are turning out a little bland. Tip: add a little more honey to it, and maybe even a bit of honeycomb.
I can't often get to the butcher to get pacific smoked salmon and even when I can, they could be out because it is seasonal, and while they will freeze some of their haul, they can still run out. So this Euro stuff fills the salmon gap. It's good. No, not Pacific salmon good but let's be grateful for year-round farmed salmon, shall we?
A little on the salty side, but if you play your cards right and use it in salads or as a lox and cream cheese addition it is perfect! I was pleasantly surprised with smoky flavor of the salmon and normally I'm not a fan of salmon because its too fishy at times ( IYKYK) but this one is tolerable and has good flavor.
I have bought this brand many times before and I have reviewed it previously. I eat 300 pounds of seafood each year and no beef. This salmon is not dried out as much as most smoked so it is pretty expensive by the ounce due to the water content as they soak it in sweetener first. I am not a fan of the added sweetener but this is what I can get. Prefer no added honey but the quality is consistently good. Looks like Walmart has chosen to carry the high moisture version for more profits.
It was much too salty and not nearly as good as the Latitude brand. I guess it would be ok for some people but I fed this stuff to the cats…do not wait for the “sweetness” you expect. It's like licking a salt lick in a pasture and it was smoked so long that the outside was so dried out- the cats did enjoy it in addition to their kibble. I'm not sure this is even made for human consumption but we won't eat it.
Not Great Smoked Salmon for any purpose. I've purchased good quality smoked salmon many times from other suppliers, but this was oily, tough, and didn't taste good at all. Even my dogs didn't like it, and they love salmon from the can or left over broiled salmon.
I purchase it because it's the only smoked salmon at Walmart that is comparable to others that I have purchased from other stores. Most of the time it looks like someone has sat on it or looks to be manufacturing and not necessarily fresh fish. There's just something about it that makes it just worthy enough to buy when you want smoked salmon. Oh, and it's usually crusty on top and mushy in the middle
This isn't flaky or tender or even very smokey, and the surface is unpalatably hard. This might be fine blended into a dip, but it has an overcooked texture and unimpressive flavor on its own. The price is competitive considering how expensive smoked salmon is, and the fish is definitely edible, but nobody in my family actually liked it.
