Excellent Picture Quality and Speed!

jojo19 May 25, 2020

The HP 15.6 RYZEN 5 8GB/256GB Laptop is elegant in Rose Gold! Besides the exterior, I'm very pleased with the equally appealing silver interior! More importantly, this 4 pound, light weight beauty packs a lot of power! It has everything I need and look for in a laptop. My main concerns were fast Internet surfing and clear picture. This HP delivers those, plus much more. Set up was simple and it was fully charged on arrival. Guided by digital assistant, Cortana, getting started is easy for any age or experience level. Nice options available: -Get instant access to your Android phones photos, texts....and if you don't have Android, you can also send web pages from your iPhone to your computer. -Back up your files with One Drive. My previous laptop was an HP so my pictures were immediately transferred over once I turned on and set up my new HP 15.6 RYZEN 5! It can't get any easier! -Comes with a one month trial of Microsoft 365.... if you approve it. -Online Speech recognition...talk with digital assistant, Cortana, or give her dictation using your voice! -Find your device..if you need to locate it! -Direction and weather information based on your location. -The ability to work with two apps at once. -I noticed there was a "tablet mode" in the settings section. You will find it under "devices". This HP provides great multitasking performance. It runs smoothly while I have several projects going at once, with no lag in momentum. Loads quickly. I imported pictures from my camera to this HP and my photos appeared in a flash. Fastest transfer of any computer I've owned. Clear and vivid picture quality. Really beautiful color and crisp! Graphics are sharp. Editing pictures gets perfect results! Easy to type keyboard. My fingers feel free as I type and there is ample space on the desktop to rest my wrist and hands. Touch pad is responsive and comfortable. An effortless tap takes you to where you want to go. I Skyped with my sister. Video chat went perfectly. I saw her and her cat in High Definition on webcam! Used Netflix, no buffering with high quality viewing! Long lasting battery that charges FAST! I'm in love with this reliable laptop computer. The combined use of the AMP RYZEN 5 processor and Radeon Vega Graphics allows for a smooth and powerful Internet experience. I'm able to read articles and scroll down pages quickly. Lightweight and easy to travel with. The HP 15.6 RYZEN 5 8GB/256GB was the perfect choice for me and so happy to have it! I'm so impressed! Highly recommended.

Terrific, portable machine

Nik May 27, 2020

Beautiful and sleek, lightweight laptop. This HP was easy to set up. The solid state drive is fast and programs load quickly. Keyboard is large and comfortable and a nice contrasting silver color. Laptop itself is more on the gold side of rose gold, not real 'pinky', which adds to it's sleek, sophisticated look. I have been taking advantage of the portability of this laptop, traveling from room to room and packing it easily in my every day tote handbag. Battery life is long lasting. I am able to binge watch on the go, without having to charge. There is no lag time or waiting for sites to load or movies/shows to begin. The sound is spectacular. I can hear just as loudly and clearly when I am in front of the machine, as to when I am moving around behind it. It's quite impressive. Movies and television look great. A couple of notes, this is not a gaming or photography laptop. The power cord is located on the left, very near the curve of the laptop.

Great gorgeous Rose Gold Laptop

Ariesjmc May 28, 2020

This HP 15.6- inch laptop is lightweight, color is pretty and it has rubber strips on the bottom of laptop to prevent movement. Its pretty fast and easy to set up. It comes with Windows 10 Home and has 256 GB internal storage. I haven't had a new laptop in over 8 years so its alot of new things to do on it and I love the fact that it comes with a number keyboard on the right side of the laptop. The battery is built inside the laptop so you change or take out the battery. So no heavy laptop and it is very thin and easy to carry around. I don't have any bad comments about this laptop. The camera and mic work great especially for those Zoom meeting and Google Classroom. Also there are lots of apps that can be added. I received this product from the Spark Reviewer program.

Great laptop

Labkitten May 27, 2020

This is a great laptop. It has the AMD Ryzen 5 instead of Intel, but so far no differences in performance. The laptop is rose gold which I love. The battery life is amazing on this thing. It last up to 10 hours on charge. There's plenty of memory, 8G, so it is fast. The hard drive is 256G and so far not even 20% used with everything that comes on it. I uninstalled a few things that I won't use and added a few. It's easy using Microsoft Store to find apps. MacAfee comes already installed. For the moment I have left that. The background will be changed later. This computer can be linked to your phone allowing you to transfer photos easily between the two. There is an HDMI port and two USB ports. The graphics are great so watching movies on the 15 inch screen would work. Navigation is easy. I will probably hook in a wireless mouse since it is not touchscreen. I already connected to the printer thru wi-fi. I will see if I can also connect to the Smart TV which would allow me to view movies or show photos. So far this is really a great laptop. It has more than enough space and speed.

Top Rate Perfomance for the Price

DMAadam47 May 26, 2020

In my working days as a photographer all my PC's had AMD processors and for some reason in retirement I ended up with Intel. I had read a lot about the AMD Ryzen processors so really was excited to get my hands on one. This model used the Ryzen 5 and really performs well and faster than expected. HP has done a really good job of making this computer both a looker and a performer at an affordable price. The screen is quite good, contrast, sharpness and color were great in straight on viewing. Peripheral viewing both to the side and tilt made the screen somewhat hard to see but I don't fault anything for that on a laptop. Casting was extremely fast linking to both my smart TV and Roku Ultra in record time. Bottom line I can easily recommend this for anyone looking for a PC in this price range. In its price range I give it a solid five. Up against my other computer I give it an admiral and unexpected four. After running it through everyday use I decided I would pit it up to my other PC that cost double this HP with a couple simple tests. I have to say it held up extremely well. First was a boot test. Hp boot to login: 11 seconds the login to desktop screen 5. My computer (B Intel I5)Boot to login 12.5 seconds, login to desktop instant so pretty much a draw. Next test was basic video rendering. To make it simple I use the old Windows Movie Maker. I use 25 images and music. Video was 2.55 minutes. The results: HP 1min 19 seconds, mine (B) took 48 seconds. Slower for the HP but very admirable concidering the differece between the two and how little video editing most would do.

Exstreamly Nice Laptop For The Price!

Leprechaun May 26, 2020

When I was given the opportunity to do a Spark Review for the HP 15.6 AMD Ryzen 5 processor 8GB Ram/ 256GB SSD Rose Gold Laptop I Jumped at the opportunity. I've been around Computers all my life and have had many desktop PC's and Laptops in my time. I took my time and examined and used the laptop, doing the things one would normally do in a day by day usage and this laptop did not disappoint. One of the first things you will notice is the large keyboard keys, although they do not light up, they are large enough to see and type on with no problems (this will aid thouse with sight impairment problem like me). I'm also very surprised at how "thin" this laptop is, It weighs almost noting, which would aid those of you with students going back to school this fall. Next are the added ports to the unit. It comes with Two-USB ports and One-USB Type "C "port there are also a SD-Card reader port for thouse of you with digital cameras and One-HDMI port and yes! there is a jack for headphones if you go that route, However this unit supports Blue tooth for thoughts of you that preferer your headphones to be wireless along with other Bluetooth devices you may have. And one of my Favorite things is the speed of this unit. It has a KBG30ZMV256G KIOXIA 256GB SSD drive in it. And if you've never had a SSD drive in your computer, you are in for a Big Surprise!... they are "Extremely Faster" than the old HHD's are. The boot time for Windows 10 is literally seconds with a SSD drive and when using a App they will open almost simultaneous with no wait time to mention. You will also notice that this unit is running the AMD RYZEN 5 3500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx Processor. This processor definitely lives up to its name, and is a excellent choice. This unit also has a very nice and "Large" touch pad which is very responsive and adds another very nice feature to the unit. The one thing that I wish the unit had was a Larger display Resolution. It supports a 1366x768 resolution which is HD But I'd like to go a little bit higher for gaming purposes only. So Folks to wrap it up If you are looking for a very nice small Laptop That has close too, if not better! performance than some of the more exspencive units on the market. Than this unit will Surly Not Disapoint and "Yes" I do recommend this unit to everyone.

Runs Fast And Works Great

empusagirl May 27, 2020

The first thing you notice about this HP 15.6 Ryzen 5 laptop is the nice rose gold color. The laptop is pretty thin so it does not feel bulky. When I first started it up, it was really easy to get things going and to personalize it. I connected it to our wifi and I synced it with our bluetooth sound system. I am able to print via bluetooth/wifi as well. I started adding other programs and apps and this laptop handled it all well. So far I have not noticed it freezing up or lagging. I have not run anything TOO extensive so I am not positive how it would handle things like heavy duty PC games or music programs, for example. I did give the video editor a try and it handled it well. I have not noticed it get overheated at all. It stays cool. The keyboard feels comfortable and the touch pad is not overly sensitive like some are. I plugged in a mouse to use instead of the touch pad and that is working fine. Visually things look great on the screen. The color is full and it all looks smooth. Summed up, I love this laptop!

Really Nice Laptop!

RobRites May 28, 2020

This is the 4th laptop I have owned and the second one from Walmart. This HP Laptop is by far the Best! It is fast, thin and lightweight. The Rose Gold color and trim really make this machine stand out. The speakers are the best I have experienced from a laptop. It comes with a Quad Core Processor and 8 gigs of ram. On battery power, this baby will let you watch over 10 (TEN!) hours of video! I highly recommend this well priced laptop.

Looks Like a Winner

TeeCatin June 7, 2020

Overall, I think this will turn out to be a top-performing laptop that serves me well. I have two others that I still actively use – an aging 17″ laptop running Windows 7 and a smaller 15.6″ laptop, similar in specs to this one. This is a light laptop with a slim profile – about half as tall as my other one with similar specs. What makes it a winner, despite a few shortcomings, is its 256GB SSD – you just can't beat a solid state drive for superfast startup– and if more storage is needed, the simple addition of a card-sized external SSD or a less expensive, but still fast, HDD portable drive should do the trick. I'll take a smaller solid state drive over a big internal HDD any day. I'm a big Evernote user, and my clunky old laptop wasn't up to the task of syncing my notes to Evernote's server. I would sit there forever watching that circle spin, waiting for my smallish notes to upload, and often the upload failed completely – yet using the Evernote app on my phones (iPhones and Android) flawlessly uploaded the notes. With the SSD, problem solved. Could the specs for this laptop have been tweaked just a bit for a more pleasant experience? I think, yes. Biggest annoyance to me (but not a deal breaker) is the absence of a backlit keyboard. Also, there's no optical drive, which I would have liked (call me old-fashioned), but the laptop I purchased a few years ago, also with SSD, had an optical drive that refused to play DVDs. And this model has only two USB-A ports, but again – easily expanded with a small external USB hub. There is one USB-C port – very nice. I like that the ports are located at the rear on each side, so if I attach an external drive or a USB hub, my printer and scanner, and I'm using a wireless mouse, the movement of the mouse is not interrupted by the cables from those accessories. I had that issue with my other computer and it's hard to find a work-around. The bezel is quite thin, another nice feature. When I measure this laptop against my other 15.6" purchased in 2017, this is by far more compact – yet same screen size. The keyboard took a little while to get used to, but once I hit a rhythm with it, my fingers pretty much flew across the keys, and I have small hands. On the downside, the thin, black lettering on silver keys is difficult to read, and the CAPS light is so tiny that it's virtually unnoticeable. Can't understand why HP made those choices. It's not as if the silver keys matched the rose gold exterior – which, by the way, is much more gold than the pinkish rose gold I had expected. The battery charges very rapidly – it was at full charge before I finished setup. I had a Zoom webinar to attend, so I decided to run the HP against my aging laptop to compare for screen resolution and sound. The speakers were so good on this HP that I had to put my ear to my older laptop just to verify there was actually sound coming from its speakers. And a big difference in sharpness – the webinar presenters looked blurred on my old laptop, but crisp and sharp on the new HP, something I would not have noticed without their running side-by-side. The new HP also got the jump on launching the Zoom meeting. I found the setup tedious and tending toward the cutesy side. It offered me the option of a voice-controlled setup, and I chose that, but where were the traditional elements I expected? There was no setup for user names or administrator, no option to create a recovery disk on a thumb drive, no setting of restore points. Lots of notifications, confirmations and hints flashing across the screen from both sides, but often they had come and gone too fast to read. I learned Windows 10 briefly when I bought my other SSD laptop a few years ago, but had to set that computer aside when I tried to delete the manufacturer's media player which refused to play my DVDs. Oops, BIOS issues and the blue screen of death! I could have fixed it, but got lazy and limped along with my Windows 7 machine until now. But everything I expected to see on the Windows 10 interface on this laptop was not there. The tiles were discretely hidden, on my previous Windows 10 machine, they were front and center. A 30-day trial of Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) was offered during setup, but it required a credit card to activate the trial – very unappealing, so I passed on that. I discovered by hunting around a bit that I can simply download the Office apps at no charge. Also there was an offer for 25 GB of Dropbox for a year – not sure I see the value in that if I'm not planning to pay up at the end of the year. I'm happy enough with my Evernote subscription, so it's not something I would purchase. The setup stalled once when it was searching for my internet connection – very early on in the setup, but I was ultimately able to work around it, and it took off running and found the connection. Also, there were a ton of “learn more” buttons as I plodded through the options for privacy settings. I think it's important to read these things – and I know others gloss over them – it was frustrating to have no way to take screenshots during the initial setup. I know I could customize those settings later on – and probably with those same “learn more” explanations, but then why bog down a new owner with so many decisions so early on – a simple, "here's where to customize your privacy settings" would have done the trick. Less of that and more focus on a traditional setup gets my vote. The other thing I found disturbing in the setup was that at no point did it ask for my Google account login. In the settings, there was no drop down menu to select a different default browser. Finally, I downloaded Chrome and that brought in my email, contacts and calendar. A little bit of direction would have helped. Even after I set the default browser, it kept asking me if I wanted to change the default, but when I clicked the “make default” button, nothing happened – and yet behind the scenes it had made Chrome my default browser. So setup was a bit of a hassle – and my advice to HP would be a little less cutesy and a bit more substance and tradition. Now I'll have to hunt around to see what it did to name an administrator (hopefully me) and users. But from everything I've seen now that the dirty work is done, this will be a fast, steady performer. I'm thrilled to have an SSD and put the HDD behind me.

F A S T ! Just one thing though...

BUMMERS May 28, 2020

Was looking for a solid state hard drive laptop, & since my 3 1/2 year old Toshiba requires a new screen every year, figured it was time. The Tosh had an Intel Core I7 vs this one's AMD, so I wasn't sure how the speed would match up. Plus, the HP 'only' has an 8GB ram vs. 12 for the Toshiba. Not to worry. With 7 tabs opened in Chrome, the Toshiba took 2 minutes, 40 seconds to do a full restart. The HP took 7 seconds. Holy crap what a difference. So this thing is blazing fast for the price, has the full keyboard w/ the number pad to the right I wanted, & I would've given it 5 stars except for one very poor design feature. The keys are silver, while the lettering on them seems to be just slightly darker silver (see pics of both laptops). Forget using it in dim lighting. Guess I got spoiled (the Tosh's keyboard lit up when pressed), but this is just a head scratcher. Still. I'm very happy w/ the HP-enough to move the lamp closer.
