This is my second HP 17 B and my forth HP calculator over a period of about 28 years. Here is what makes the 17BII special: 1. Uncluttered keyboard - this is the result of the soft keys (across the top row) and menu options. This makes it much easier to see what is on the keys. 2. The vertical layout (as apposed to the horizontal layout of the 12 C). Vertical fits better into one's hand. 3. The screen is very clear - I think it is better than the 12 C. 4. RPN rocks ! (the cheaper HP financial calculator does not offer an RPN option). The ease of recalling recently keyed numbers and results, rolling down the stack and being able to store / recall numbers in the registers is soooooo nice. 5. The back-space key is terrific - I use it all the time. As with other HP calculators, the keys have a solid feel - considerably better than what one finds on cheap calculators. I use the calculator every day at work and generally get 6 - 8 years out of them. Other HP calculators I have used over the years are the 12 C and the 41 CV - the 17bII is my favorite, though the 41 CV was a really nice machine (a bit overkill for what I do on a calculator these days, and I don't think they make them any more).
I order the hp 17bII+ for all my staff and always paid $100 per item. Now that I found the same item at Walmart for $86 I'll be placing any future orders here.
The solver function that allows entry of custom formulas is a major advantage over the 12C, yet it also has all of the same financial functions as the 12C.
The HP17BII+ is simply the best financial/business calculator you can buy! The RPN math function makes calculating a long series of numbers much faster. It can also be used in traditional algebratic functions for those who have not yet taken the few minutes to learn RPN. The menu driven Time-Value of Money calculations are intuitive and easy to use. It also the only RPN business calculator which has menu driven % Margin and Markup functions which are critical functions for the business professional. The quality of the keys are excellent and it comes with a very nice leatherette case with a magnetic snap.
I have used many of the top hp calculators since the early 80’s and the 17bii+ is a very good hp calculator. The build quality is high and this calculator can perform very fast TVM and Amortization and hp Solve calculations; it is much faster than the 12c for example. The 17bii+ is exactly the same size as the hp 32ii+ if you are familiar with that nice calculator. RPN and algebraic entry both work exactly like an hp diehard would expect. You cannot write programs like you can with the scientific hp calculators, but if you want a simple to use high quality financial calculator that isn’t too big, the 17bii+ is perfect.
This calculator has helped tremendously! It does all of the calculations that I need for class.
very good product
The HP17B calculator is a very good product. It operates like a HP calculator. It is ruggit and easy to use if you are an HP person.
Easy to use. Great feel on the keys. Reliable. Great for pricing when using constants. Super nice for mortgage calculations. The current buy HP 17bII+ does everything the old one did and more at a great Walmart price; best price I could find!
My HP 19 B broke down and they don't make that anymore. This 17B has the most of the functionality except some business features such as units and etc.
