After researching and reviewing printers, I decided to purchase this one online. The price was very reasonable for the features needed, a simple at home printer to connect wireless to my smartphone without a computer. The set up took under 15 minutes using the downloaded hp app. It was very easy to follow the directions. I'm not tech savvy but old school. This is the first time I set up a printer like this, usually done with software discs. Per the included manual you have to set it up via your phone initially if there's tape over the USB port. Mine had it. The features are easy to use. The included cartridges were easy to install. There are 2 scan buttons, color or black, on the printer too. The paper was easy to load. I shut off my printer and unplug it when not in use. Just make sure the wireless printer is near your device. So far, so good.
Easy setup, works great! i had a 2700 printer which was a nightmare to keep functioning and took hours to set up. this little guy took just minutes. i down loaded the app and followed the instructions and voila! the printing Is a little slow but im not a heavy printer. just batches here and there, the printing is crisp and clear and i expect to be very happy with it at least as many years as with the first HP printer id ever owned.. The Envy was fast printing and had equal qualities. alas when it finally died i had to go for the cheaper 2700. it lasted 8 difficult months. now ive a feeling im in another good HP situation! 💖
My old HP died (bad printer head). Tried at least 2 more before I got this HP Deskjet 4175e. It was a snap to install (I'm 76 years old) and I can now print from my desktop computer or my cell phone. And it was $60 cheaper than the one I got at BestBuy which I had to return because my internet would not recognize the model no. Love this one and it's working like a charm.
First of all, I was a little confused by the negative feedback about the connectivity and so on. I'm a software QA manager, so just bought it to give it a try. An important thing to note: If you're not technical enough to understand the purpose of cloud computing and cloud-based devices, you get confused with this printer setup. But that has tremendous benefits and importantly the Instant Ink service is even better to have with a printer. You also get the paper ordering option too which ships your papers before you run out. Connectivity: Works perfectly as it mentions and has no issues. Printing/Scanning: Works great. No issues. Overall: This is a great printer and you will save a lot on Inks if you understand the InstantInk plan. Mobile printing/Scanning/Fax are great with the cloud services. You can use your mobile to print, scan, and send fax from anywhere.
Pros: good for home or school projects. Cons: the functionality buttons on the front do not have any descriptions, not easy to understand What saves this product and adds at least two extra stars is due to the HP smart app. It makes the functionality of a small printer turn into a three and one device. The automatic delivery of ink and paper is also an added bonus. The app is what makes this brand stand out. Alexa compatible also. Compact size for small spaces.
So I just got this printer and I finished setting it up. That was not difficult. You have to join HP to get the 12 months worth of ink. OK. I agreed to terms and now I am enrolled and ready to print. This was not difficult and I believe this represents a wonderful price. BUT wait! Why is the ' i ' button (Information) glowing orange? I did not know so I went to the manuals included with the printer. Nothing there. So I go on line to HP and log into my account. One hour looking for an answer and the light is still on and I have no answer. I begin a CHAT with HP. Twenty Six minutes later, I get a response asking me if I am still there. I reply and ask my question about the light. About an hour later of actually non related questions from the live chat person, I still have no answer. In conversing with the chat person I got the impression that I was talking to a robot because the questions were really so far out of the subject. However, this was an actual live person. I never did get help as to why my light was on. I did some research on line and I believe I found the answer. It is related to HP shipping the ink to me. VERY POOR HP SUPPORT but nice low end printer.
I was looking for an easy to use, cheap printer to do basic black and white printing jobs for home use. This cost less than $75, also prints in color, copies and scans, and once you get it set up is easy to use. I am reasonably tech savvy but it still took me over an hour to set up as the instructions are rudimentary. Once you figure out the only way to proceed is to use a cell phone, not a computer, to initially set up the machine, things go faster. Expect a frustrating time followed bu ease of use and you'll be satisfied with the (eventual) outcome.
Not happy with this HP DeskJet 4175e at all! I am able to print and copy, but cannot scan. Have had six calls over 3 days with HP support, who took remote control of my computer. Not one "offshore" agent was able to resolve the issue. One agent told me to hook it up with a USB printer cable. Purchased a cable, called for support, and that didn't work either. The last call, which was supposed to resolve the issue in 15-30 minutes, took 6 HOURS, and the issue still has not been resolved. And, supposed to get 12 months of free ink. When I went to register for HP , the only option was 6 months. Calls to Instant Ink (855-785-2777) have not been answered or returned. Lastly, the information screen is so small, you need a magnifying glass to see it.
Color Ink usage sucks. Not sure how its even being used when I'm printing straight black and white drawings for my daughter, with the Black and White option ONLY selected. But the ink level on the color is down to like 1/3 without printing a single color image, and the black ink is at about 3/4's. Go figure. So I just removed the color ink and I'm still able to Print the exact same images. As a black in Printer, it's pretty good.
This is worse printer I have EVER HAD. It is NOT USER friendly at all, and it's NOT WORTH THE FREE INK THEY GIVE YOU.
