I return to H & R Block each year. and am always pleased with the result. I tried a new feature that I hadn't used before. Getting suggested pricing for non-cash donations. It worked very well and provided me with a printout of all the items. This will be very helpful if I am audited.
Great product used for many years. But - I dislike very much there is no built-in PDF maker and the PDF995 takes me to an unknown website that is based on selling me a PDF maker and what is worse the PDF995 web site hijacked my print setup and put PDF995 as the default printer. Very bad. It takes away from my positive experience with HRBlock. HRBlock should include a PDF maker in their SW packages.
Just as good as 'the other' program, and actually more intuitive. I became a Block customer when the other program removed functionality from its Basic in 2014. It was a snarky move, and once I got used to Block, I never looked back. I find the interface VERY easy to use. Tax prep goes really quickly.
I've been using this tax software package since it was originally known as TaxCut (on an Atari 800 computer in the 80's)--so, for Lots of years. It's easy to understand and follow with lots of helpful information. I gave it 4 stars because when I finished my return, I came to a screen allowing me to 'Backup' and 'Save as PDF' my return. The Backup went just fine, but I could not 'Save as PDF' unless I installed some PDF software. No Thank You. Windows has 'Print to PDF' as a default printing option. So... why am I not allowed to use that?
The only problem that I found, and I had to call NYS to figure it out, is this year you have to list your driver's license information. The form wants a document number, but the software didn't help me understand what was required. There are document numbers on your license, but no where on the license does it say document number. Also it won't import from RBC
All was well until I checked the audit risk. The response was "you have a slightly elevated risk due to one of these" and a list of six items. None of the six applied to my return! I tried to cut and paste the erroneous message to send to H&R, but was unsuccessful. Perhaps the software is blocking my attempt at private feedback!
was easy to use except directions which relate to line 65 were confusing, resulting in my claiming taxes paid TWICE. now I will have to file an amended return to correct. I should have printed a copy BEFORE filing. then i would have caught this error.
I've used this software for many years and will do so in the future. However, there is an obscure bug that kept a 1099 form imbedded in my schedule c even after I deleted the 1099 form. It took me having to delete the entire business (wouldn't just let me kill the form). The 4+ hours to redo a business that included depreciation on many assets, business use of home, etc was a huge frustration.
Confusing. I also saved my file after being efiled, but my MAC updated its IOS and my file was lost somehow and now I can't retrieve any information, I received an email my forms had been accepted but I can't access the file and tech support was of no help. On IOS the program keeps disappearing and you have to reinstall.
I've used this Basic software for years and have always been satisfied with it. This year, after downloading and hours into my return, discovered that it no longer supported Schedule D, Capital gains, losses and carryovers from my modest investment account. Pop-up informed that I now needed the more expensive Premium version to do this. I was very unhappy.
