The structure of the app, income items with deductions is very good. The initial navigation is as well. However when selecting an income or deduction item navigation is confusing. The back button takes you to unexpected screens not the previous screen.
I get reminders from you and if I buy early I get a discount. Each time I go into it it auto updates, which is good with the latest tax information. I know I buy in Oct-Nov but at least I have it ready to go for the following year and don't have to go to the store to buy it. It is very easy to use.
I have been using H&R Block Tax Cut before it was bought by H&R Block. I love it. But this year I had trouble loading in forms from one of my Vendors. It started with one account not completed until May 11th. So, I entered and loaded all my other transactions into the system. When the last account was available, I tried loading it and it took a long time to load and then would error out with a storage error. I tried several times and it would do the same. Then I created a new fresh return with nothing but last year's information and question until I got to the interest and dividends portion. I loaded this one vendor's accounts, and it took a long time to load but it did load all my accounts. The problem was the 1099-B of the late account. There were 1556 1099-Bs. And each generated an error for each one. Luckly, it passed the final checks, and I was able to submit my return to the IRS without error. I would like you guys to figure out a way around this problem for the future software without needing to load a bare return. This could also be a problem here if there were too many 1099-Bs to be inported.
Everything seemed good and I sent it in. Checked back to check on status and when to expect refund and was told it hadn't been sent in. Apparently my id code wasn't included when it should have been (I thought I included it). I completed it and resubmitted it and if apparently went in. Probably was my fault but thought I should mention this since this was the first time this happened after using this since my previous software company was bought out by H&R.
I've been using H&R Block since way back when it was just Tax Cut. The simple stuff is pretty straight forward. This year I found something on a whole form that the interview process does not ask about and saved me a few dollars. I went back over the last couple year's returns and I could have saved about $80 over that time. There's other things that I've found somewhat confusing... like why doesn't it ask for 1099R input right from the beginning like it does for W2. After all, it replaces W2.
EFTPS Electronic Federal Tax Payment System. I could not find it so I could increase the amount of money I was paying to the federal government. I talked to 5 different people on the telephone over 3 days and nobody could tell me. They said use search button and AI button. It took me 3 days to find EFTPS
I have used your tax software for many years. You have provided the perfect platform to meet my needs. However, 2025 was tramatic. My inability to file due to a K-1 error sent me into a panic. Thank you for the last minute fix. Next year do better or I will be forced to look elsewhere.
I've submitted this issue every year for the past 3 years. YOU HAVE A BUG IN YOUR PROGRAM (BASIC). My wife are on SS, and that is the ONLY income that we have. Our AGI is always $0. We have nothing but standard deductions, NO credits of any type. Each of the past 3 years we had received too much money for my wife's Obama Care Plan, and had to pay the overage back to the IRS. When you get to the end of your program, and it does the "Final Check", it comes up with an error in RED that says YOU MUST HAVE EITHER INCOME (taxable) OR A CREDIT. Has we have neither, the program WILL NOT LET US PROCEED TO FILE OUR TAX RETURN VIA INTERNET BECASUE OF THE "ERROR". Our AGI has been $0 for the past 3 years.. I have to print the return and MAIL it to the IRS which kinda defeats the purpose of buying your program. I wish you would fix this for future versions of the BASIC program as my income and credit status will not change in the foreseeable future.
In preparing to file my 2025 1040 return I discovered that HR Block took it upon itself to elect an option in 2023 that I wasn't even aware of until 2025. By making that option choice (IRS Section ? like-kind exchange, 1.168(i)-6(i), I paid $5000 more in taxes than I would have had to. As a result I had to file an amended 2023 tax return to recover that $5000. Your software should have posed the question, not made an assumption. Legally I can only depreciate a property up until I no longer own it. Additionally, I can't depreciate a property I don't yet own. Yet your software took a full year's depreciation on the replacement property on the 2023 tax return. Your 2023 software said it could not file an amended return electronically. Why not - too much paper to send electronically ? This is the 3rd year in which I have found issues with your software. So next year I will probably try someone else's software.
I bought the basic program (same as I've done the past 20 years). I always itemize. This years software has a problem with modifying deductions. The program crashed multiple times and the only work around was to delete the entry and enter the data new. Seems that it's time to try another software package.
