I purchased this bike for my 12 year old grandson. Other than it taking over 30 days to be delivered to his front door, he is loving his new bike. My son said it came in a well packaged box and the assembly went without a hitch. I am not sure why it has to take so long to be delivered, but after the wait, it was well worth it.
It is actually better than what I expected. I have experience for bike maintenance, so it is easy for me to assemble this bike. However, it still took me some time to adjust the disc brake. Kid likes this new bike, pretty strong, as also heavy :(. Will have a ride on the trail to test it. So far so good.
My 11 yr old son loves this bike! It's really a sharp looking bike and fits him perfectly. Some of the components are a cheaper quality (ie, the gear shift levers, de-railers and brake levers). You will have to fine tune gear changing components, mine wouldn't shift through all the gears right out of the box... but over-all very pleased with the purchase just be prepared to make the final adjustments.
Our first order came in with right gear indicator broken, we didn't think it's a big deal, but after we completed the assembly, we noticed that the gear change was broken (not due to the broken indicator), there are a few gears that we just cannot switch to; in addition, the chain wass very loose and easy to fall off. Luckily, we have a Walmart store nearby, so we returned to the store. Then, we ordered a second one as the kid insists. This time, it came in good condition, with the experience, assembly was easy. Kid likes the bike.
This is a very sturdy bike. It's a bit on the heavy side for a younger rider (8 or 9 years) but has an easily adjustable seat making getting on and off easier despite the weight. The seat offers little padding but our son hasn't complained. Ours came with a broken right shifter which Huffy customer service quickly reordered and shipped to us. The disk brakes on both the rear tire (pre-installed) and the front tire (we installed) rubbed no matter how precise we tried to be with the adjustments. Luckily, we have an excellent local bike shop which did a full safety check and tweaked some of our installed parts, they also caught a loose brake cable. We felt it was worth spending a few extra dollars for the safety check or even for professional assembly if DIY projects aren't your thing. FYI, you install the front tire, handlebars, seat, derailleur and pedals. The Oxide is more expensive than some of the other Huffys offered but if you're looking for a sturdy bike with some extra features like shocks, you'll be happy with this bike. The ride is smooth and the gear shifting works well for a bike at this price point. Bikes are hard to come by right now and I hope this review helps you grab one while they're in stock.
The bike came pre-scratched on top tube and other areas, it's fine, no big deal, it's not big large scratches. Bad weld everywhere especially on mine between head tube and top tube. Even a small hole and rust can be seen. You can see spatter and inconsistent beads. Rear frame (right vs left chain stay) is welded unevenly causing the rear wheel to tilt at an angle. Toe overlap, difficult to ride straight. Overall, good bike for kids to ride around for a 2/3 years until he/she grew out of it. Good looking bike, nice color and design, it really is quite an update with full suspension in terms of design, I really like it. However, not so stellar execution, brand name does not help this bike, a big quality control issue here. By the way, this bike is heavy.
The instructions for assembly are terrible, but we figured it out. Then my son got on to ride and the wheel is to close to the petal so any time he turns his foot hits the wheel! It's like the frame is to small for the wheels. It's a cool looking bike, but we'll have to return it.
Bikes cockpit felt to small for someone being of about 5'5" to start with, gears where tareible while under preasures of riding up a hill, maybe 10°or so Even on flat ground gears would skip an grind, ended up popping a tube when inflating had to go out an buy new ones even befor i got to test ride the bike... also stright out of the box it seems like tha back wheel is stiff to rotate, i think tha bolts to tha bearings housing are tighted to tightly, and i dont have tha tool myself to fix tha issue i noticed... deff not worth the price tag of $250
Don't waste your money on this. Thought it would be worth it b/c Huffy used to be a good brand. First day the chain fell off. Every day after that as well. Maybe a week after using it, the chain %26 gear thing came off. Not worth keeping a bike that's $250 when it keeps breaking. Very disappointed to say the least, especially since it was for my son's birthday.
Review from 10 year old -- The huffy oxide is a very scrappy bike. The breaks barely work, the front suspension works well but the back broke right away, and the seat is very uncomfortable. The gears are cheap and it is difficult to ride straight. I do not recommend this bike and that is exactly why I'm giving it one star.
