We live in a rural area and have all sorts of critters roaming around at night. Wanted something to possibly scare them away or at least keep them at a distance. The light seems to work when it comes on the critters (deer) run away. Hopefully they wont get so accustomed to it that they no longer fear it. The light is bright but not so much that you can't enjoy sitting outside. We are heavily wooded so I had to find a place with enough sunlight to charge it. However it is easy to dismount so I can take it down to place in direct sunlight to recharge it when necessary, I mounted it low with that in mind, it doesn't shine constantly so it should hold charge for a while. A bonus is that it can be carried around if we have power outages or want to look for something back in the woods.
This is a great solar powered light. The brightness is shocking for a solar motion light. Used it both as an outdoor light on a patio to alert me when the cats were out by my plants, but then moved it to the outside of a feed shed because of the mounting bracket. It allowed me to use it as a flash light to search a barn that had no power. love it.
In order to insure that the battery charges up during the day, and that the unit illuminates my (North-facing) garage door, I needed to come up with a rather bizarre structure to attach the light. It’s not pretty but it works. If you have a good south-southeast-southwest facing place to install it, you should have no problem. I followed the instructions and let it charge 8 hours. That night -- there was light! It seems the motion sensor is a little less sensitive than I would have thought. I had to get pretty close before it came in but that might be due to having installed it pretty low: just about six feet. Anyway, it works fine for my needs.
I think this motion sensor, solar street light is excellent. My husband installed it in less than 30 minutes, over our front door steps. When we (or our little dogs) approach the steps, they lite up with brilliant white light. We are very happy with it and highly recommend it to others.
This solar light by Hyper Tough has 1000 Lumen brightness, 75 Watt equivalent, 2 year limited warranty, estimated life of 18 years based on 8 hour per day use, 120 degree motion detection up to 20 feet radius, 30 second delay time. Package comes with solar fixture, 1 lithium ion battery pack and hardware mounting kit with template for marking screw placement. The hardest part of installation was my 71 y.o. husband getting up and down a ladder to mount the fixture on a tall 10 foot post. Tools used was an impact drill with screw bit, a level and screws. Our is positioned centrally in a backyard space and is powerful enough to illuminate most of the back yard for outdoor entertainment at night, not to mention a great security light. No complaints, we look forward to years of enjoyment. Would recommend.
I installed this light to our fence pole to have some additional light by our backyard gate. I like that it is solar and motion so I don't need to wire it or replace batteries. It is pretty bright and the angle can be adjusted as well as the 2 light panels can be tilted or face straight down. I like that you can mount it to a pole instead of drilling holes also. It does come with a wall mounting option in case you plan on putting it elsewhere. It is very bright at night and lights up quite a bit of the yard. The motion detection is not too sensitive, but sensitive enough to work well when you are walking by to activate. There is also an off switch to keep it off at all times.
Would be good as a motion-sensing security light. The name "Street Light" not really accurate as you would expect a dusk to fawn sensor operation so that the area or street is lighted constantly at night. So I would call it a security light which responds to someone walking up. Nice when you're walking out to the shed at night. Or could be used indoors in a garage or closet lighting up when you go in. Of course would need to be charged in the sun once in a while so in that case keeping it portable.
I received the Hyper Tough 1000 Lumen Solar Street Light. Item number Q01DU0402-08. The instructions were easy to understand. I attached this to the vertical post of my tarp and pole carport. I don’t have any electrical outlets on that side of the house so I needed a solar option. This product is perfect for my needs. I was pleased with the amount of light it projects. I’m not electrically inclined so having actual power ran was not an option. Also, financially hiring an electrician for a wired light fixture is not an option. This was the perfect affordable solution. I’m hoping this holds up to the severe weather my area is prone too as others have mentioned the plastic housing isn’t water tight. I really like how I can angle the LEDS as well as angle the overall fixture. I feel the teeth part of the fixture for angling could be bigger. The plastic teeth are so tiny I could see them slipping over time if there is enough movement from wind etc. I wish this had a sensitivity dial and a time dial that some other models have.
They hardly light up anything and are very small
This seemed like it would be a great solution to our odd mounting location. The light stopped working after a few weeks. If it worked as it did on the first day, great light. Sadly, this product was not made to last. I do not recommend. The Westinghouse solar lights have performed more reliably. There are also some lights of this brand in a different shape that are more reliable and look like the Westinghouse lights. They claim to be the same lumens. They are not as bright. They do still work, even if this “streetlight” style model does not work. I think there may be a fault in the housing that allows moisture inside or some other factor causing failure for the streetlight style. I do still like my other solar lights for motion sensitive lighting in the garden.
