was a great purchase, not as expensive as other major brands. was able to diagnose and clear unnecessary codes. saved us a lot of hard earned money that wouldve gone to the service department. bluetooth connectivity is very convenient. the app was pretty intuitive for an average diy person. would recommend this product.
Worked great connected to my 2005 Dodge Durango. Potentially saved me over one hundred dollars by not having to go to a repair shop or dealer to get my check engine light code checked and cleared. My code turned out to be minor and easily addressed by me, a non-mechanic.
Didn't give the product 5 stars because I purchase the product hoping to erase a code that the smaller HT100 couldn't read. Unfortunately this product wasn't able to erase the code that appeared on the dashboard of my vehicle. Solid product choice if you want to know what services you may need for your vehicle in the future.
The wireless OBD scanner tool is a bit slow. The functions are limited. It can read transmission fluid temperature and perform alternator battery test. Other than reading check engine light codes, it doesn't do much else. If you need to access the e-parking brake to do a brake job, this won't help. If you need to access the maintenance function on your hybrid vehicle, this won't work. For $60, it should offer more functionality.
I bought this because reviews indicated it would clear Tire Pressure Sensor Codes, it in fact does not. Basic functions seen in other Bluetooth devices. Over priced, in my opinion. It will clear engine codes and tell you how to repair the code, beyond that, it wants you to pay for more. I only recommend it due to it will read and delete codes. Has a decent live stream. Do more research and get what you need.
i would have to unplug and plug the ht500 back in each time i try to switch functions. also it's a hit and miss to get something to connect. I'm a retired mechanic so yes I know how to use it. in my opinion i think it has something to do with the bluetooth connection.
Requires an Internet or data connection to even read codes via the app. Can't just read dtc codes alone everytime you want to do something you have to enter in your year make and model in the app and wait about 4-5 minutes for it to "scan" all the modules just for it to pull up generic codes with generic descriptions. That is if the connection is successful which takes about 1-2 minutes to even determine, have had a 70% rate of it being successful without having to re-insert it and sync again.
The whole reason I bought this scanner was for the SRS and TPMS functionality, but I hooked it up to my Subaru and when I try to read codes on those systems it says N/A. In fact it says that for every system except the OBD2 system. If all it will read is the OBD2 system, there are cheaper scanners out there just for that. My vehicle is a 2014 Subaru.
I purchased this for two vehicles: a 2008 Honda Accord and a 2008 Toyota Prius. I have not had any issues using it with the Accord, but with the Prius I found that it would have been better not to have any OBDII tool at all. While away from home, the check engine light came on, so I pulled over, inserted the HT500 and started reading codes via the Repair Solutions 2 app. While it was communicating with the vehicle, numerous warning lights suddenly appeared on the dash, including the "red triangle of death." The car went into an immobilized state, all of the gear icons started blinking, and it took me a while to even figure out how to turn the ignition off. The app reported over a dozen codes, most of which were related to lost communication with a particular system (ABS, hybrid battery control, hybrid vehicle control, etc.) After quite a bit of troubleshooting (still on the side of the road), I finally restarted the vehicle enough times to get it back to a normal-ish state so that I could drive it home. Once there, in the safety of my driveway, I did some more thorough troubleshooting. It appears that the original CEL was caused by an EVAP system code, something quite innocuous. I was able to clear everything, take it for a test drive, and saw that everything was fine. Then, in order to prove what happened, I used the HT500 to check for codes again. Here, as in the first time, while the app was communicating with the car the dash lit up, lights started flashing, the car was immobilized, and the app returned nearly 20 codes. This time it was difficult to get them all cleared, because as the app/tool was clearing some it would scan again, which many times would re-create the same scenario and set me back to square one. It seems that the tool is interrupting the normal communication between vehicle systems. Overall, this product is dangerous. I would have been better off not using it to read the one code that triggered the CEL. I also could have used an older ELM327 reader, which I have done many times in the past with no ill effects. This very well could have left me completely stranded had I not gotten lucky with the initial blind troubleshooting.
After 2x failed curbside pickup orders where they wait until 10mins before pickup to update system that it's out of stock, they give me a “we'll ship item for free” option. I accept only to have an obvious opened box delivered. I attempt to use it and the app immediately says “failed” on first use. Waste of time, money, and energy. There's no way the “shopper” didn't see this package was opened. And Walmart definitely knew it was opened because it was all taped up to reseal the packaging. Disgusting business practices. This has set me back days on trying to get my family's only car back on the road due to failed after failed orders.
