They are comfortable to wear and give you that added protection. The material used does have the thickness to withstand a snake bite I assume but sure wouldn't want to find out though.

These are REALLY REALLY WELL MADE! Super comfortable in the hot weather too. Much nicer than wearing leather. Worth the money, I am sure there are cheaper ones, but I can highly recommend these. Ordered them and received them two days later. I'm 5'10 and they are perfectly proportioned.
I haven't used them yet but I do like the quality, durability and fit. If you are going in areas where there will be snakes I advise you to invest in a pair.
I haven't gotten bitten by a snake yet but they look like they will do the job if I do. They are comfortable and well made.
