Door was exactly as described. Very easy to install. After reading the negative reviews about fit, weatherstripping, etc, I came to the conclusion that some people just shouldn't do their own work. I measured my door before I ordered it (which I would have done anyway), and installed it properly. There was no problem with fit, and the weatherstripping provided was more than adequate. If you do your due diligence before ordering, and have minimum skills, this door will work out great!
This was exactly what I was looking for. Had always heard of doggie doors that you could put in regular doors...was almost debating having a piece of glass cut out of my patio door until I came across this. It has been perfect in every way: fit, installation and usefulness!
Let the come animal come and go while keeping Most of nature out. Love it. Bye bye flies and heat.
I like this door it definetly serves its purpose. The white looks good with my white patio door as well. However, I needed to go out and buy lots of weather stripping because this is not as thick as a patio door obviously so air comes thru in some places. Also too, to keep it from wobbling, I had to shove wood in the gaps at the bottom and top of the door. Overall, I like it. Once i was able to rig it so that it doesn't move & airs not coming thru it made a big difference for my animals =)
My only concern about this product is the lack of security considerations in that the material is not as hard and strong as the sliding door itself and would probably be easy for a burgler to just Kick It and it would pop out. Not sure how it could be designed otherwise though.
My hairy friend and I love it. It is not easy to take out once in place so we have to access the backyard from another door. If this is your only door to outside it will not work because you cannot squeeze out of the small opening unless you are a child.
It doesn't fit either of my patio doorways on the sides due to bad construction of my house. The problem I have is that when I put the weatherstrip on, the top is fine but bottom is not. The gaps are too big to make it able to be installed permanently so what I do with it is install the door on days the pups actually get to go outside and remove it on days they don't. It's easy to install and remove. But if your doorways are straighter than mine, it will work great!!
Easy to install. Sizing is off though. Definitely glad I got medium size. My 13 pound min-pin fits through it perfectly along with the 2 cats. Still getting them to use it, but they r getting there. The small would have been to small. Looks good installed.
First off, I bought the medium sized door (11x8), which is claimed to be for medium pets weighing up to 35 pounds. There would be no way a pet weighing that much could fit through the door. This size door is more for small pets (cats, which I have that weigh 10 to 15 pounds). So I made the right choice by going bigger. It's the perfect size for them, and they get through the door comfortably. A small door would have been a tight squeeze. I installed this pet door against the patio door that doesn't slide. That was the only way that made sense, and would also provide some form of security. Installing this against the sliding door would not work, would not seal, and would not lock. Buy yourself some extra weather stripping (the soft stuff). The hard weather stripping provided with this door is useless. Be prepared to improvise and buy extra hardware to actually make this door fit securely and work with the patio doors. My extra expenses were $35. All in all, I'd recommend the door, but be prepared to do a fair amount of work to make it fit securely. But still this is not buglar proof. It will be an easy access point for someone to break into your home. I don't see how this, or any pet door, could be made completely secure.
Like the door, just wish they would have recessed the exposed screws on the edge where the sliding glasss door is suppose to seal against it. By not recessing the screws, they make it impossible to install weatherstripping along the edge where the screw heads are and cold outside air leaks thru. That part should be redesigned. The slidiong glass door does not butt up against the pet door edge tight enopugh to prevent a ga that appears of abut 1/16th of an nh, enugh to allow cold outside air to leak thru to the home.
