This is the perfect backup/spare kit if you already have something larger, and a great beginner kit otherwise. The removable end-cap of the plastic driver has storage space for 3 bits and the body has room for a few more, in case you want to ditch the case. If this is your only iFixit kit or you're buying it as a gift, I would recommend adding the aluminum driver (IF145-419-1). The plastic driver isn't *bad* but the aluminum one gives a much more premium feel and it fits perfectly into the case where the plastic driver goes. This also gives you the ability to have 2 different bits loaded and ready to go if you're working on something that uses more than one type of screw.
This is the perfect little kit for a sound man on a movie set, or really anyone who needs to manipulate small controls or tools while in the filed. The only thing that would make this kit better would be if it came in a leather pouch rather than hard plastic.
Great product. Provided all the tools I needed to replace the display on a 2016 Macbook Pro A1708. Prior to finding this kit, I searched all over on Amazon for a kit that had everything I needed and could not find any. This kit provided exactly what I needed.
Bought this, got it, did the job great. Then I saw more things I could fix if only I had the bits. This didn't have the bits because I was cheap and bought the tiny kit. I am now buying the big kit because I thought "Ehh, all I need is the little kit." I was wrong. The little kit is great at what it wants to be, but now I've gotten a taste of the little kit and I need the big one.
I've purchased this kit for work as the kit we had was stolen. The handle is plastic, but high quality one, it is rubberised and has nice tactile feelings. As for bits, they are also high quality, thy are made from S2 steel, industry-leading. Really handy for on-the-go repairs.
I've been hoping that iFixit would make something like this for a while. Yes the handle isn't metal and yes it's not quite the same quality as the bigger kits, but the bits and the driver work great and if anything the lighter driver makes it easier to carry with you. Also makes a great gift! Only charge I would make is find some way to attach the insert that holds the bits and the driver to the bottom of the case. I found that I almost always ended up pulling the insert most of the way out when trying to get the driver out. A few drops of super glue in the corners and around the outside solved that right away.
Compact and easy to travel with.
Purchased this kit to change the battery in my iPhone X. It's basic but had everything I needed. It's also nice and compact. Only two complaints. First is It can be hard to see which bit is which. 2nd is the foam isn't glued to the bottom of the case so when you remove the driver, the entire insert comes out. I might use some spray adhesive to glue it down. One product enhancement I'd like to suggest to the iFixit team if they read this is different colored end caps. I often have at least 3 screwdrivers going at once so being able to change the endcap to a different color would be great for being able to quickly look and see what screwdriver I'm picking up. Right now, I just use colored masking tape to wrap the handle.
I was expecting the driver to be the high quality metal one like the one that comes with the pro tech. It isn't, it is a plastic one. It's okay, and I understand why they did that. But it would have been nice to know. Maybe I just didn't read carefully enough? Otherwise great set, I love you guys!
I think this product is great for smaller projects such as phones, computers, etc! In those cases this is the perfect setup. However, do not use this on older or bigger devices. Yesterday I found a dirty old cooking appliance (a skillet that had previously been buried), and wanted to clean it up. However, when I used my 2.0 Phillips Bit and tried to remove a screw, the bit snapped after a bit of pressure. A regular Phillips screwdriver got that specific project done. In conclusion, if you need a setup to work on devices, this is perfect for you. If you plan on working on heavy duty projects, get a different ifixit screwdriver setup.
