This cooler is very well made and durable. It's ice retention is excellent for the price. Best of all you don't need to refinance your house to afford this quality cooler. If you're going on a 10 day trek in the desert this may not be for you and perhaps you should invest in an overbuilt model that requires financing but for the average user this is a splendid cooler that does exactly what it is designed to do. I also recommend the BMX25, same quality just smaller. My experience with Igloo customer service was superb as well.
Great box, served the purpose on long stays, better with ice than packs
I did a good bit of research before buying this cooler. I'm very happy I did. It's perfect for me. The screws of the hinge on the cooler ripped out the first week due to the plastic being thin on the lid. Igloo replaces with a brand new cooler immediately and this one has been great. We take this cooler on the boat instead of the yeti simply because of weight. It's much lighter and Holds ice for The whole day even with kids opening it all day. At the end of the boat day if there is ice left it will stay for at least 3 days. Can't beat that at this price.
Pre-chilled the cooler overnight. 2pm Friday we loaded the cooler with Ice cubes, a frozen 1 gallon water jug, cold food and cold drinks. Everything stayed cold the entire trip. Got back Monday around noon, still very cold. Ice cubes still present and 1 gallon water jug still half frozen. Decided to keep the jug in there and see how long it would last. It lasted until Thursday late afternoon. So about half the time it was with us camping where the temps ranged from 65-90 degrees each day. The other half the time it was in the house around 65-75 degrees. Held ice for about 6 days. It was kept in the bearbox/shade while we were camping but the temps still got up to about 90 pretty much every day. We pre-chilled the cooler, and refrigerated/froze everything we put in there, used 2 part ice to 1 part food/beverage ratio. As long as you do that you should be able to get at least 4+ days worth of ice retention without an issue. The blow molded construction makes this cooler very lightweight for it's size. 1 person can carry it. Roto-molded coolers with similar size capacity weigh a considerable amount more, and take up much more room in the car due to the thick wall construction. While a roto-molded cooler is slightly better ice rentention and more durable, it was not what we wanted due to size/weight issues. Very happy with this blow molded cooler. If you need ice retention for 7+ days go with a rotomold or injection mold. If you are fine with 4 day ice rentention go with the blow mold as it is just so much easier to store and carry, etc. Just make sure you pre-chill, get everything cold before your trip, use plenty of ice, and try to add block ice or frozen water bottles/jugs and this cooler will exceed expectations for sure. Also, as a quick side note: This cooler will NOT hold 83 12oz cans as advertised. Maybe if you don't put any ice but that's just not realistic. Realistically it will hold about 30-35 cans plus ice. Or maybe 18 cans plus some food plus ice. We were debating this cooler or the Lifetime rotomold cooler that was about $20 more. Overall we have been very pleased with the igloo BMX 52, I feel the Lifetime cooler would have been too heavy for one person to carry and would have taken up too much space in the car (we don't have a truck so that was a major issue we considered before purchasing a cooler).
I was all about buying a Yeti! Once i went and researched coolers, I noticed the Igloo look a like. Not only is it just as good, it has added features! Built sturdy, keeps drinks cold for five days! I spent ONE THIRD THE PRICE AND GOT THE SAME THING. DO NOT BE A FOOL... EXCELLENT BUY.
I wanted this cooler used a few weeks before posting a review. My husband is a construction worker and is on a job site for up to four days at a time. This cooler goes with him and it has proven time and again to stay cold for up to five days with a single 64 oz solid ice bottle in upwards of 80 degree heat. The size is great, with ample room it packs 5 days worth of groceries and pans. The design is super durable and easy to lift. I love the fact it easily wipes out! No smell, no staining. I can't comment much on the weight because it does what we want it to do.
I have been looking for a YETI cooloer or something like it for a long time. I just couldn't see spending that price. Even used, they are crazy expensive. Although not rotomolded, this Igloo cooler has a great cooling capacity, so much better than coolers I used to use! I also purchased the Igloo ice packs and so now I can keep food cold much longer, even in VA Beach heat! Thank you Igloo!
I rarely submit reviews but the past two igloo coolers deserve high praise. We had purchased the IMX-70 igloo cooler and were incredibly impressed with the durability and ice retention (7 days). So when we wanted a smaller cooler we went with the BMX-52. It is well constructed and on our first camp trip it held ice comfortably for three days and was still over half full of ice. Not sure of the total number of days we could get out of it but this is the perfect mid sized cooler for us. Don't have to worry about refilling ice for a long weekend plus. Filling it up right now for a four day excursion to Death Valley and am confident we won't need to worry about ice during that time. Igloo products have met the technical challenge of the expensive brands but without the price tag.
I've ben wanting a better cooler for some time now. I really didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars (not that I don't see value in a product), but when Igloo was donating prodits towards COVID releif, it was a no brainer. So far, this cooler is performing as it should. My beverages have been cold for days and I'm not jamming ice in it everyday. I just swap out ice packs every two days or so and that is that. Thanks!!
I bought this cooler to be used on our off-road outings. I needed a rugged cooler to keep up with the abuse of trail riding. For he money this cooler fills the bill. I have only a couple of issues, first, it needed dividers as part of the sale. I don't get having the grooves cast in cooler and no dividers to use. Second, the lid has corner tie down loops, these should of been cast below the lid so when in use the lid could be opened. These are small issues, and speak to how I use the product. This cooler is awesome.
