I would call this more of a wood chopper type of machete. It's got plenty of heft for that kind of work. For vines and such, a normal less tip heavy machete is better. That being said, it's a good tool. I sanded and stained the "gift" handle and it looks good and is adequate. I will likely put a little longer handle on it and secure it with a bolt for peace of mind. I'm satisfied with this purchase.
I liked the heft Best durability of the sickle. The handle was too short for my particular application. I used it to cut poison parsnips so I wanted more distance from hook to hand. No problem though, I fitted the wooded handle into the hollow handle of my broken shovel with a fiberglass handle. If you don't have that you can use a squeegee handle that fits right in. Trim handle if too long. The thing is a beast. Keep the hook sharp, it does most of the cutting.
Heavy duty. It cut through significant brush with little issue. A few nicks showed up, but I filed them out fairly quickly. For the price, an excellent deal.
It handles the 7' tall giant ragweed easily, and could be handy for home defense, in a pinch.
Blade is sharp and it's heavy which is good. I wish the handle was a little longer to give more stand off distance for striking poisonous snakes. There was no case or sheath provided with this tool.
For the most part it worked as expected. Wood handle was shorter than I would like it to be. Purchased a longer handle for more reach. The small pin/tack that is supplied to attach handle to the blade is useless, it came dislodged after about 2 minutes. Will drill through handle area and add a bolt and nut. Other than that, the blade had a little weight which helped in cutting small branches and vines.
the nail is too short to support the forces as is the handle, there should be a longer tang and additional screws
no way it can do tree branches. not very sharp. barely can cut thick weeds.
Liked the item but handle wasn't as long as expected
Blade is dull. Handle won't stay tight even when assembled per directions. Very difficult to use.
