Imitation of Life: Two-Movie Special Edition

I purchased the Imitation of Life special edition as a gift for a friend who loves this old movie. The set was only $5.00 and it included both { the black and white and the color versions} The color version alone is $9.98, so it was a great value. I paid postage but that was only $2 and some change. The package arrived super quick and I was pleased with the purchase.

this is one of the best movies ever made. Hollywood does not make movies of this caliber anymore. A must have to keep in your movie collection. Deals with race relations in a poignant, well written way, the acting is superb!

I'm a huge fan of these movies. They are both heartwarming and heartbreaking. My all time favorite movies. They have very similar story lines but yet each draw you in for a different reason, either the characters or the messages. Beautiful movies.

I always loved this movie, my mom is 90 yrs old and she loves the first one in 1934 she was 9 yrs old when it was released. She has fond memories. I can relate to the 1959 version even though it was 2 years before I was born. Both films are great.

I am so happy to have these movies as part of my movie/dvd collection...🤠💿

Old time favorite movie to watch

I just absolutely love this movie,both versions but the version with Lana Turner is my favorite. It's an absolute tear jerker! You can't go wrong with this movie, it tells so much about the dynamic between a mother and daughter and friendships. A nust see for all!!

When I was a teenager, I would go to see movies with my grandmother. The historic Tennessee Theater in Knoxville would show movies from her childhood as matinees during the summer. I loved this time with her and I quickly fell in love with the movies and the actors and actresses of that time period. "Imitation of Life" (1934) was my favorite movie because of the moral of the story and how it tackled the racial issues of the day. Claudette Colbert was the epitomy of grace and style throughout the movie and I love watching her movies to this day. This particular DVD edition includes the 1959 version, which was a treat as I had not seen it. The two versions are very different in content and story. The 1934 version is about a friendship between two single mothers and their struggles in raising their two girls in a post depression era and a changing social attitude regarding women and race. The 1959 version spent much more time concentrating on the career of Lana Turner's character and the relationship between her and her daughter. The 1959 version was a big disappointment to me. It only seemed to make me shout at the tv. I hope, if you have been a fan of this version, you will purchase this DVD to see the original version and see the glory of true friendship and love.
