Accessory kit is the electric cord for the installation of garbage disposal unit . This model does not provide one. Garbage disposal was user friendly.
My mom is happy with the item
Not sure why so many had difficulty with this product identifying the neutral and hot wire. Directions are simple and to the point, right on the front page it states neutral wire is ribbed and hot wire is smooth! Only thing I recommend is using better wire nuts.
I see many comments that it's not obvious which line to connect to white and non-white wires of the disposal. It was completely obvious to me. It's also spelled out in the instructions - ribbed cable to white wires, smooth cable to non-white. Super-easy installation and the Romex connector was easy to install and secures the power cord well.
The manual that came with my Badger 900 did tell me which wires were hot and neutral but the manual got wet and unreadable. That was my fault of course. My complaints are with the website. Unfortunately, the Badger manual on the website does not say which wire was which. The manual for this kit needs to be made available online. The newest Badger installation manual also needs to be put up in place of the old one. Furthermore, it would be great if the documentation for each individual model could be selected instead of one manual covering all Badger models. In other words, the same documentation that comes with each model needs to match up with the documentation on this website. Thank you.
I installed new cabinets and had to remove the existing garbage disposal. When I removed it it was hard wired to the switch because of the electrical code. I prefer a plug so I can unplug it if I need to so I know the power is off. Installing the plug was simple as the instruction told me which wire was the power and neutral. Reinstalled the disposal and everything worked as it is supposed to. Took me all of 5 minutes to do.
I read ratings from various sources, reviewed product information, accessories, and pricing. I am somewhat biased toward purchasing because of the 7-year in-home warranty accompanying the product - top of the line InSinkErator Prestige item. I was, however, upset about what I call "nickel and dimeing" me to purchase accessories - some of which should be included in the initial purchase! It makes one think you don't want the price of your item to go over a particular psychological price point. A quality organization should be just that in everything they do, or strive to do.
I concur with some of the criticisms about the lack of clarity around connecting the black and white wires. (i.e., "ribbed" goes to white, and smooth goes to black). At least one reviewer downplayed it and scoffed at the confusion, but for something this important, the manufacturer should spell it out more clearly, and not force customers to research it via YouTube and online discussion groups. If these details are included in the instructions, there must have been some very fine print. One thing to consider: Assume many customers are doing this for the first time. Don't assume what's obvious to engineers, plumbers, and electricians is clear to all of your customers.
They definitely created this power cord for the pure purpose of causing you to purchase the EZ cord. I have no doubt they paid engineers to make this as unusable as possible for that very purpose, I will never recommend a product by this company just because of this idiotic power cord.
I have two black ribbed wires with a green ground. Please make this more intuitive (not less intuitive over the years), with instructions that match the product. Needless to say, ideally, I should not have to use my tools. Does insinkerator truely value the previous years of feedback from its customers?
