This little metal box is roughly the size of a deck of cards. It worked immediately and perfectly as the junction between the internet provider's router (which receives the fiber optic signal from the street) and my laptop, living room smart tv and the ROKU connected to the kitchen TV. I've still got one port open for future use too. Although they refer to this type of item as a "switch", it's a junction box. There's zero switching going on internally or externally. It doesn't even matter which port anything is plugged into...there's no "IN" or "OUT" jacks as is the norm for those familiar with stereo system cables. This box does require it's 120-volt power adapter plug (included) to be plugged into the wall or an extension cord in order to operate. For the security-minded, unplugging this one power adaptor from the wall completely shuts down the household network if desired. If you want to get your home items off of Wi-Fi (radio waves which are only protected by a password) and operate them inside of a closed, hardwired, household network which your neighborhood can't see, a box like this and an ethernet cable to each appliance is the ticket. For under thirty bucks (including the three fifty-foot cables I needed), my house is now invisible to wi-fi, is faster to connect to the Internet, and may be a bit faster with uploads/downloads as well. This switch box has phenomenal function, performance and price which are fully recommended by this user.
Great cheap little switch. install is simple and works as it should
I have a small wired network in my house. My TV, DVD, Visio and DirecTv Genie are about 25 feet from my router. I needed a smart Ethernet switch to connect all these devices to the one wired port I had left on the router. This fit the bill perfectly. It is small, easy to install and energy efficient. I'm very happy with it.
I have been using this device for over 10 years in the worst of conditions and environments and I never have to touch or replace them. I used to have them sent from a warehouse in NY to me in CA but I found them on walmart.com (It is probably coming from the same warehouse but there is no minimum order here.) If you need a simple 5 port auto sensing 10/100 switch then this is it for a good price. Also the casing is made of metal. (More professional)
works as described
arivied fast and works as it should.
This switch works well, better than the Edimax.
