They now have a common ground lug to ease installation.
There was a Little Grey Box timer in the house when I bought it 18 years ago. It had worked well up untiil the past few months, when it wouldn't turn on as set. Because of the age, I was surprised to learn that Little Grey Box timers were still on the market. I bought a new one, took the timer mechanics out of the Box, turned off the power at the main breaker box, disconnected the wires from the old timer and removed it from the old Box, then installed the new mechanics and connected them. In all, it took about 15-20 minutes, mainly because I was taking my time to make sure the wiring was correct. The mechanics popped right in and work even better than the old one, which apparently wore out over time. I'm very pleased we don't have remember to go turn on the hot water manually any more!
Much better with metal parts than the others that have plastic in them.
Exact replacement for my old timer, would still work, but was making noise. Easily replaced by professional installer been working fine for a couple months now.
I've been using these timers for years with no problems. The one I have now is about thirty years old and starting to get a little noisy so I ordered this new one to replace it
COMPARED TO ANOTHER RETAIL STORE I FOUND THE SAME PRODUCT AT A LOWER COST AND DELIVERY WAS JUST AS FAST
very disappointed. it cuts off the full character of each bible.
Purchased this unit as a replacement for the same WH40 I purchased 3/13/2013 from a retailer who no longer carries this brand. The original unit worked fine, except that it began bending the white metal "ON" timer trippers with increasing reqularity. Replacement trippers bent as quickly as the older ones, and the manufacturer's technical help center told me that the unit was wearing out, making it increasingly difficult for the trippers to flip the switch. So, I purchased this unit and it seems (after only a couple weeks) to be working fine. As a practical matter, I manually flipped the switches on both the old and new units and could tell no difference. Time will tell. Note to a new purchaser: These timers vibrate and the trippers loosen. Don't overly tighten the trippers because you'll bend/distort them. Instead, use Loctite blue 243 on the tripper threads; they won't vibrate loose, but you will be able to loosen the screws and move the trippers as necessary.
We ordered and installed two of these and neither would flip ON/OFF tabs when the timer motor reached the point where the tab was set. Both timer motors would just stop. Definitely not a durable easy solution for controlling your heaters.
The timer arrived with the workings loose as if they just tossed them in the enclosure box and called it complete.. The timer is not mounted to the enclosure at all. I'm not able to mount the timer to the enclosure. It said nothing about the timer needing to be assembled. It's not trustworthy. Just throw some parts in a box and ship it, what a joke.
