Turbo Tax makes me feel confident that I have filed correctly. The way it copies identification info and filing details from the previous year save me some time. Periodic comparisons with the previous years filing let's me know if I am on track and if I have forgotten anything. The way the software walks you through the return is particularly helpful. One small nit... . Every year I report royalty income. Every year I have hard time getting the software to record it correctly. It wants to steer me into reporting this as business income and it is not. It also double counts this income. I need to go into forms mode in order to get the correct income reported.
TurboTax is invaluable in making sure I comply with the constantly changing tax law. I would hate to even try to do my taxes without TurboTax. It definitely makes my life easier. In addition, whenever I have had a problem over the years understanding the tax law and how to enter a specific item, I always got the help I needed from the TurboTax representatives. They are professional, patient, and knowledgeable. Thank you very much for your EXCELLENT software and for your very professional staff!
TurboTax is clearly the best tax preparation program for the masses, especially if you have any complications to your taxes. I'm a CPA and have done lots of returns for myself & others and currently use TurboTax to prepare my personal return and help out some family members. I've used many tax programs over the past 20+ years including both TurboTax & TaxAct. I switched back to TurboTax last year after being very frustrated that TaxAct required me to do some detailed schedules and calculations by hand for certain situations, that didn't seem that obscure, rather than the software handling the work, in other words, they chose not to program the detail in. TurboTax though is extremely thorough and handles everything within the software that I've ever encountered. I often fill out the forms in the software directly since I'm familiar with them; however, I really like the interview features of TurboTax that most people would use and find it very thorough and the error checking parts of the program are excellent. Yes, TurboTax is a little more expensive than TaxAct, but they're not that far apart and I believe this is one of those times you get what you pay for.
I would like the ability to eview every line entry of the final form as a clearly stated OPTIONAL feature before finishing th eprocess. And I would like the abiolity to directly enter data when it needs top be included on a specific form but the program obscures the access.
everything was pretty easy except my 1099 for mineral rights gas lease royalty income. The 1099 generated a Schedule E which had errors during the prefiling federal review. There was no clue how to correct the errors. It pointed to the royalty amount on the worksheet. I just kept fiddling until it finally accepted I don't have a clue what I did to correct the error.
Turbo Tax Premier is reasonably accurate in terms of calculations. It found the same tax obligation and refund amounts that I did working completely on my own. My big gripe with it is that it leaves me almost blind when it comes to the State taxes. I can't see how it came up with its results - there's no real way to review it without saving a pdf file and printing it out. Furthermore, Turbo Tax prevented me from applying this year's State overpayment to next year - reducing what I need to pay in estimated taxes. Finally, I found the whole package a lot more difficult to use this year. I'll try it once more next year, but if the trend continues, it will be the last year I use Turbo Tax. It used to be a great product. Now - not so much.
It took almost a year to get our 2019 refund due to the 1095A not being properly pre-populated by Turbo Tax for the people covered by Exchange Insurance. Very frustrating trying to contact anyone at the IRS after we submitted our returns on 4/14/2020. We finally received confirmation on 2/26/21 after having to send our hardcopy of the 1095A to the IRS back in September 2020, that all was resolved and that the IRS had all necessary information to process our nearly $3k return. In doing our taxes again this year, the same issue happened, however, based on our experience last year, we went in and self updated the form. Additionally, the HSA funded by a one time IRA dispersement is not handled correctly, we had to add the dispersement amount manually on the 1040 form under 'insurance' .. it took us a bit to google this error and fix it ourselves. Thanks Turbotax, but these repeated errors should not be propagated. We're not the first to recognize them.
I have used Turbo tax for many years. This year, like always, I purchased the CD, loaded it and started taxes. After working a couple of days off and on, on my taxes the program gave a notification that i wanted to update. Unfortunately the update did not load without error (1603 error). In order for me to proceed, i had to remove the program, clean up the registry on my pc and then reload the program - and then turn off the auto enabled download of updates. I firmly believe that if the auto enabled download of updates had not been turned on, i would not have been in the loop i could not get out of. Please consider this on your next version that is deployed to the general public.
Bought "Premiere" version for 110 and it claimed to include a free state file, however i was still charged 25 bucks to file to the state....Also just clearly outdated software, feels like a rip off. I'll be using H&R Block next year as it's truly free...FRA FREE FREE ;)
worst experience ever! mac version crush multiple times, have to uninstall and reinstall twice to make it work. RSU/ESPP inputs are not straight forwards and waste us a lots of time to figure it out. not to mention the mortgage deduction inputs. overall it is a trash. will not buy again.
