As much a film as a kung-fu film
Given the veneration this mentor of Bruce Lee receives, the likelihood that a film about him would drift into kung-fu flights of fancy is very high. Instead, the filmmakers chose to go dark and gritty, focusing on the occupation by Japan and attempts to crush the Chinese spirit. The action is as good as any, but grounded in reality. Probably Donnie Yen's best overall work.

Inspiring, but not for the faint-of-heart.
This movie is a great story about Ip Man, the man who founded a new branch of martial arts in China. His courage and confident, compassionate personality are inspiring. The movie is rated R for graphic violence. The violence is not gratuitous but (IMHO) intended to show the seriousness of what is happening. Not for children or those who dislike violence, but a good watch. I bought all three movies in the series. (This is the first in the series.) The second is also good, haven't seen the third yet. Note that movie is filmed with Chinese dialog and English subtitles. Not the best for viewing, but wasn't a problem for me or my family.

The price of $7.50 for this blu ray movie was very good. I had it shipped to the Wal Mart where I shop every week. Pick up was fast and convenient. Thanks Wal Mart! With a busy schedule, you made this purchase so easy.

SIMPLY AMAZING!!!
I have always wanted to see this movie for a while now, Yesterday I went into my local Wal Mart and before my very eyes, there it was, snatched my copy quickly since there was only one more copy left. Man this movie blew me away, Donnie Yen as Ip Man captured my attention through out the whole movie. Fight scenes were simply amazing!! Wow is the expression I had through out the movie. Looking for a martial arts movie to watch. Definitely buy this movie. It won't disappoint, I watched it twice yesterday. Might go watch this again!!

Great for Bruce Lee fans
