For me perfect.

Weekend Warrior November 19, 2016

I bought these clamps about a month ago. I have not read any of the reviews if I did I would not have bought them. I am an avid wood worker hobbyist. I have bought various sizes and all have worked perfectly. Personally I like the ratchet grip because now it is so much easier to clamp up one handed. After reading the reviews I felt I should add my positive experience. I will only use these for light work which is why I bought them in the first place. For me these are meant to be a step up from vise grip clamps but not when I need the weight and strength of heavy duty parallel clamps. I will buy more in the future. while I strongly recommend for a woodworker I do not recommend them for a welder since weld splatter could easily damage the clutch action.

Slipping clutch

Bal623 August 13, 2020

I received two 12” clamps from my daughter for my birthday. One works most of the time. One does not. The teeth are to shallow. Once pressure is applied it slips. Time for Irwin to re Engineer.

Nope.

Liz M November 29, 2025

I'd give these clamps a zero review if possible. As the only job this clamp has to to is to "clamp" and they failed even do that correctly. After taking time to set up the clamps just right, they don't stay tight, often popping out and losening, causing projects to fall, and adding additional time and head aches. I bought 4 of these clamps they worked at first, but now all of them are garbage.

Failed after less than a week

kaizoku0506 June 15, 2016

I bought 2 new Irwin clutch lock bar clamps to help build a wine box for my brother's wedding. They worked for about a day, but then started to slip. By day 4, the slippage was constant. These clamps are absolutely useless now. I will not be buying any more Irwin clamps in the future.

Doesn't work anymore

Andrea August 15, 2016

I have only used this clamp twice and like the others are saying, the ratcheting doesn't work and slips so you can't tighten the clamp at all. It's a 36" clamp and I can't even return it anymore because I've had it too long. Waste of money.

Once again...

Steven D August 23, 2016

I guess I'm not the only sorry case.... My vise grips work so well that I use them for more than what is expected. Which brings me to this case in point...??? Why...they certainly look sturdy. Please correct this problem.

Disappointed

Woodworker007 February 5, 2021

I was once an Irwin fan, now I am just disappointed. Purchased a couple of these clamps. They died within a month. Replaced them with Dewalt brand for about the same price and the Dewalt are still going strong. The Dewalts outrank the Irwin in ALL categories.

Useless

Dc007 December 29, 2022

I bought 6, down to 2 that work. 4 others trash when clutch starts slipping. With so many complaints on same issue, it's shocking that Irwin hasn't addressed the issue.
