After searching for and trying about every clamp/spreader I could find, I finally settled on the 600 series. I'm using the initially for the spreader function to apply pressure against glued on floor molding where fasteners can't be used in the wall. Once I figured out how to switch the end jaw I saw that this clamp was the best for my needs and easier to use than any of the others. I will add these to my collection of about 20 other misc. conventional clamps and will likely be using them in the future for conventional clamping also. These heavy duty clamps may be overkill for most of my uses, but they are constructed well and I don't have any reservations about them holding up long term.
I have found the Irwin Bar Clamps to be an extremely useful workshop tool. Certainly outperforming other brands that I have used. The only concern is not being able to purchase replacement face pads for the clamps. ( they have deterioted to the extent that they have disintegrated). Other than that they are a workshop "must have"
Needed to change a car spring, broke every other clamp I had. Worth the big investment for a student. Used them (now x4) for almost every building project I've done since (8 years). Although new super long one does bow under heavy spreading. Wouldn't use anything else.
We use 30-50 of these clamps everyday to clamp cabinets. we have had the same set for 6-7 years now and about 10-15 of them started to lose their clamping power. once I called Irwin to say this was happening they sent me brand new replacements at absolutely no charge! i would recommend this product to anybody.
I purchased a pair of the XP600 24" clamps to use on a deck construction project and I couldn't be more impressed or happy with the utility of these clamps. Thanks IRWIN for developing a great product. They are the greatest thing since God created women!! A two thumbs up recommendation from me.
I use this clamp and several other sizes of Irwin quickgrips in metal working, wheelchair ramp deck construction, and stairlift maintenance and repair.
I have mine in a shed where temperatures reach 40C plus never had any problems with the pads or clamp
Great Clamp, however it is an updated version from the picture. I purchased here due to it displaying the silver aluminum clamp body, but what came is now completely plastic.
I bought 2 pieces of these clamps for DIY furniture builts in the house after reading all the great reviews. It does work well like it's supposed to.( used it once or twice. ) But after a few months of storage (in 25-30 degree Celsius room temperature ) The pair of removable black pads that is supposed to spread the clamping pressure while protecting your work piece, simply disintegrated by itself the moment I picked it up! It wasn't because of any clamping force. It melted and broke into pieces like chocolate-like sticky substance. ( see photos... the glossy part is the stickiness ) I was shocked and picked up my other Xp 600 clamp. Same thing happened! All the pads just fell apart. So I am left with 2 useless Irwin clamps and a project to be completed until I find a way to fix the clamp. Irwin, why did I trust your product for durability and being reliable?
Overall I like these clamps for many ways of clamping but I've found that sometimes the plastic clip that secures the end piece will strip or break. I believe this would be a better product if they used a light metal to replace the weak plastic it presently has.
