Should have used a real Vice-Grip!

Mad Dog October 23, 2014

As a police officer I have seen many strange things. On a busy road I came to a stop at an intersection. The green left turn arrow for an oncoming vehicle came on and as the car began it's left turn it went out of control up onto and across a sidewalk and into a ditch. I investigated and the driver hopped out of the cars exclaiming, "It wasn't my fault, the Vice-Grips popped off!" The car had no steering wheel and this guy had been driving with a pair of off brand locking (sort of) pliers clamped onto the steering wheel shaft! A quick glimpse of the offending tool showed that they were an inferior imported copy of you product. I am also a part time mechanic and have an appreciation of quality tools. Of course my tool box includes an assortment of your products, man are 20 years old and perform as new. As the driver received his traffic citation I mentioned we may not have had this encounter had he been using Vice-Grip brand tools

So good, TSA decided to keep it!

Nich December 15, 2022

Had the 10" regular vice grips for around 30 years drove a thousand miles in a U-Haul to bring my child to a new apartment in another state. Knew I couldn't bring much in the way of tools that I could bring back on the plane. I did bring the Vise Grip for it's versatility and dependability. Alas, I didn't know that I couldn't bring a Vise Grip larger than 7" on a plane. They said I couldn't bring it on the plane so I asked them to please give it a new home.... I miss them already.....if Irwin wanted to send me a replacement rhough...😉

Awesome

Vandy May 26, 2020

I have owned a pair of 18SP locking clamps for more than 30 years and they have never let me down in any way. Work like the day I got them, screw adjustment works smooth and bind free unlike the cheap knock offs. These are my go to clamps for just about any clamping application and the deep throat on these makes them exceptionally versatile. Nickle plating has held up incredibly through all the welding, grinding and water they have been subjected to. Just ordered a pair of 24SP and looking forward to having them in the shop.

Surprise Snap

Tcmb March 29, 2023

I bought a bunch of these, and in general I think the 10wr is an essential tool to keep in the car and in the shop. I was surprised when this pair Snapped. It won't stop me from buying more, but it was a bit disappointing. The web site lists a lifetime guarantee, but I don't see any means of getting a replacement.

Not a Peterson by any means.

nejdman August 2, 2016

I have used "VISE GRIPS" since i was a kid, I'm 70 and my dad used to buy the look alike.... I own several pair of PETERSON VISE GRIPS as they are in all our tractors, and vehicles. Having purchased the IRWIN brand VISE GRIPS i was surprised that they look the same but found them inferior in the ease of operation. The geometry has changed as I can no longer operate them with one hand when they open beyond my grip and they are constantly opening too wide in the unlocked position for the setting i have them on. The adjustment screw does not operate as smoothly as the originals as they seem like the threads are not as smoothly cut. Lifetime warranty? I don't want a replacement, I want the "OLD VISE GRIPS BACK"

NEW VICE GRIPS ARE REALLY SLOPPY

TheBDD October 21, 2018

I am a millwright supervisor and bought a set of the 10 inch vice grips, the real brand, because I didn't want any horrible fright stuff. But man I might look into the cheaper brands because the new real vice grips are about as low quality as the knock offs. definitely not the quality of my and my father's and grandfather's vice grips. they are so sloppy it takes a conscious effort to make the jaws line up. All the components flop around and the release lever even does it wen its locked down. The jaws are not hardly hardened and their teeth round quickly. Also the finish is a cheap, no-polish, rough, plated. Looks like i'll be combing the garage sales for some REAL real vice grips

Made in china says it all

ts55 October 27, 2020

My old vise grips still work great, the new needle nose are so sloppy they wont hold anything and the tips are now blunt and not pointed. Another sad story of a company selling there product out. The three new pairs of needle nose I bought will go in the the scrap pile

Don't open

CMcM December 13, 2017

Just had a set that wouldn't open with release. The new ones don't open any better. It's to bad that the ones I have had for 20 years still work better than brand new ones!

Make them like the original!!!!!!

Gaza March 26, 2022

See the review and pics by ts55 I agree completely with the review. I have been using the "original" vise grip for 30 years why change the design and make it worse? I had to grind the tips to a more fine point (like the original had) do not go cheap because I will find a better brand.
